Honestly a static page that's literally just text, a few hyperlinks, and a few lines to prettify is like, peak design. No bullshit. A 9 year old could design the site and that's a complement.

You can run this site on a mobile phone from 2002 and it would run perfectly.

I can use my TUI based browser to use the site and have the same experience as every other user.

They've achieved a lightweight, ultra-compatible, informative site with just enough eye candy (those lines) to make the site feel at least as engaging as a newspaper.

This is brilliant, 10/10 would hire that web dev.

Edit: Single line -> lines, idk what happened my eyes shit the bed or something

I wonder how much Geico pays for that spot.

[–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago

Probably nothing because he owns Geico, it's just self-promotion

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 4 points 2 months ago

Well, based on their commercials I'd say it has to be less than 15% of their competitors' revenue.

It can even be hosted for free in AWS with nothing but a publicly accessible S3 bucket.

You don't need to, you can do this on your own.

Ant Accessible text is best accessible text.

When I was a teenager, my dad tried to impress me with the bloated website of his new employer. Unskippable propaganda flash banners, baffling organization, messy color scheme etc. He asked me what I thought and I told it was hideous and terrible. He probably thought I was being spitefully contrarian but it really was an ugly site.

It may not be pretty, but it cuts the bullshit and gets straight to the point.

However, I have two thoughts regarding your personal expenditures that can save you real money. I'm suggesting that you call on the services of two subsidiaries of Berkshire: GEICO and Borsheim's.

I estimate that about 40% of all auto drivers in the country can save money by insuring with GEICO. The figure is not 100% because insurers differ in their underwriting judgments, with some favoring drivers who live in certain geographical areas and work in certain occupations more than GEICO does.

This is the least bullshit I've ever seen in an advertisement. Acknowledges that it's not cheaper for everyone, tells you to compare it to whatever you're currently using.

Almost makes you want to hype a billionaire. Almost.

A straight up HTML ad for GEICO? That means I can't block it. Genius.

[–] biggerbogboy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago

For a sec I thought I had dimentia since all the links were purple

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

How it looks on my phone. That ad sure does eat up some space.

[–] descartador@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 2 months ago

It's not that bad

I guess the design is the original from 1978.
