This is the logic of liberals.
My favourite such interaction was when a shitlib explained to me that even thinking in terms of imperial interests (as in "the US has imperial interests in South America") you are essentially an imperialist yourself. If you describe imperial geopolitics and grand strategy, that's when you become an imperialist. He was very adamant too.

Well, there was no thought out justification (he literally just said that if you talk about imperial interests you are an imperialist)
The context of all things was a Jacobin article saying that Russia has imperial interests too, and it's reasonable to think that they will act according to their imperial interests, and it's unreasonable to think that they will just abandon their interests, because the US wouldn't either
What made it extra annoying was the arrogance that is typical of shitlibs
Thinking back, you never know whether you are debating a smug 16 year old online, though my guess would be that the person was mid-20s
