Girls be like “where’s my 6 ft+ millionaire bf who also likes to stay home, cuddle, read feminist literature, and does the dishes and laundry without being asked”, meanwhile they’re a single mom with 30 extra pounds and crippling student loan debt.

Problem is having unrealistic expectations regardless of who you are. You can have preferences but don’t objectify.

I would say that their comment was perfectly in line with the post lol

it goes both ways

Thanks. That's what I was aiming for.

okay, but why do you suppose he described the proverbial "welfare queen" as soon as someone posted a meme about a thing men do?

[–] Soulg@ani.social 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Because both genders do it and it's only fair to point out that it's not only the one in the post, exactly as valid as if that comment was the OP and someone commented about men doing it

Pot calling the kettle black? Or People in glass houses?

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

What part of their description made you think they were describing "the proverbial" welfare queen?

You see this a lot in the comment sections of short videos complaining about men. The expectations are wild. Of course they're unrepresentative, but these women clearly are out there.

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

All I'm saying is that having unrealistic expectations is not a single-sex problem.

If you really wanted to express that this goes both ways:

In the post, it's "meanwhile, they're just some guy". Why not say "they're just some girl" instead on bashing on single mothers?
