Well, that headline took a few reads to figure out. Is it frowned upon to use the word 'the' these days?
Is that “the” supposed to fit between “police” and “opposition”? I’m still confused by this terrible headline.

Makes sense...if we primarily used print still. Not so much for online articles.
People are used to it though. Why do we even still have headlines at all?
