Monday or Friday?

Who interprets a slash as “through”? Does M/W/F mean Monday through Wednesday through Friday then?

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 7 points 6 days ago

I agree, to me it reads "monday and/or friday"

It all depends on what the person modifying the sign had available. Having been that person, you work with what you got....

Meh.

Context tells you when a "." means 'end of sentence' and 'decimal point.'

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 29 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Context holds that you use a dash to mean “through” and a slash to mean “or” here.

b/w can mean black and white or between depending on context.

Yeah well the other meaning I can see is motherfucker.

Also, I hate b/w for between. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not bet ween. It’s be tween.

It's a semi arbitrary symbol for speeding up handwriting. It's just supposed to be recognizable, connecting the two most important letters. Which it does well.

Why is the w more important than the t, with the T representing the second syllable

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

It just makes more sense to me. The w sound is longer and more important imo but I wouldn't be mad if you did shorthand a different way.
