The people who colonised America are the puritans Europe didn't want in the first place. They are the rejects and European in title only.

that was only the first wave, subsequent waves were a diverse range of people tempted by the promise of cheap land and (at best) indifferent about the people who would have to die for them to get it
That must be why a third of America has French names for everything, because Europe wasn't interested in colonizing it
