My landlord did something similar, she smelled weed in the interior lobby (which has 5 doors to different units) and immediately assumed it was me and gave me a write-up. She then did it again and gave me a 2nd warning. By the lease terms, after a third warning within a year she could have me evicted within 30 days.
Two issues though. I live in a legal state and she never claimed to smell weed smoke (which is against the lease terms) just weed itself (which is not). She also just assumed it was me when there are 4 other tenets, and I know what she’s talking about I could smell it too and it was so strong that you couldn’t tell what door it was coming from.
I brought up both of these issues and that she couldn’t prove anything about where the smell originated and never got a third warning.
Landlords are absolute scum!
(it was definitely my neighbor making edibles in oil/butter btw but I wasn't gonna rat them out, especially after they shared some with me)
