Rocks being Blackbeard's father was pretty well foreshadowed: His ship is literally called the Saber of Xebec and only a handful of people in the world know about or care about Rocks, it was basically a given.
It makes his betrayal of Whitebeard even more brutal. We also don't know the full extent of Rocks' relationship with his son and it looks like Blackbeard was possibly just an orphan.
We also see Blackbeard following in the footsteps of rocks: recruiting powerful and dangerous pirates who swear allegiance to him not out of love (like the strawhats) but out of mutual interests and a desire to see Blackbeard's era out.
I agree it was foreshadowed but wasn’t sure if Oda was going to pull a twist there.
Think you’re right on the orphan part and that’s likely why blackbeard didn’t take his dads last name
It is funny to see the chud one piece communities (mostly just piratefolk on reddit) start ranting about "nepotism piece" even though the spiritual/fatalistic aspects of one piece were always there from the start from chapter 1 where luffy steals a devil fruit from a pirate crew and chapter 2 where he survives being whirlpooled.
They're already jumping to wild conclusions that the Rocks remnants knew about blackbeard being Xebec's son even though that was never actually explained. We just got an Oda narration of "father of Emperor Blackbeard" which none of the characters can see, Oda is choosing to reveal this now because with Xebec's design it would be painfully obvious.
Anyway Xebec dropped an admiral at the reverie
he did nothing wrong.
Surprised there’s still these. I remember the drama around Ivankov and then all the coping with Yamato lol, I’m surprised they’re still around.
We’ll see how he’s portrayed going forward but I like him based on that alone lmao
Oh yeah, regular transphobia and terrible comments about that. People's problems with Yamato and people's transphobia both mix together and there is very little moderation.
They're still going on about the "Kurozumi will burn" line which is because of the tcb fan translation deciding to use the plural instead of the singular which was cleared up in the official release but they still talk about it because one piece is geared towards teenage boys who need furigana to read the characters.
He did knife Loki earlier on, but Loki still admires Xebec so we'll see how it plays out. It possibly is part of Loki's harald moment where he met someone who could overpower him effortlessly and reshaped his outlook on the world.
