Some crossover with /c/neurodivergent here. Got diagnosed with ADHD this year and have been on Concerta for a month or so now. I think it's helping overall. However, I used to drink about 20oz of coffee a day, and now that I'm on stimulants, I'm cutting back some (the full intake would likely make me way too jittery - I accidentally drank a bit much one day and it was.... wired). At the most I'm making 2 aeropresses in the morning.

I got myself a nice-ish entry hand grinder -- the goal here is to enjoy the cups that I have more. I was wondering if any of y'all had good setups for the Zapatista blend. A lot of the coffee snob stuff online is for lighter roasts, and I know that's probably not our commie coffee. I started making this one today and it seems like a nice starting point, but for those who know more how might you tweak this? Do you have your own setups you enjoy? I'm not gonna invest any more into gear ATM (if I'm not laid off though, I'm gonna get a moccamaster and a nicer electric grinder for when I have company), but any aeropress suggestions?

Also, general coffee thread. I can say I'm already making better coffee than my AIO batch brew setup, but that's no surprise.

I've been on a Japanese style pour over kick - the stuff is so much easier to keep clean and I enjoy the process of it lol.

I have an electric grinder that I got as a wedding present forever ago - before that I was a hand grinder guy and probably would return to it if the electric one broke.

I've never had the Zapatista coffee, but if it's a darker roast, maybe try adjusting the temperature down if you're getting a burnt or bitter (in a bad way) taste. Never used an aero press, so I have no idea tbh.

Saw the post about your job, too. That's awful, I hope you find something decent soon!

Thanks comrade. The worst part really is that there's still hope I get rehired after budget reconciliation. Which makes it more degrading in some ways.

Still, I'm pretty qualified for stuff in my field, though the fact is that I've never been good at the job search and don't have much hope. But I'll keep grinding it out.

Re: coffee -- definitely feel like 90-ish c is the sweet spot for me. Trying to figure out if I like a coarser or finer brew. I thought about a pour-over setup, but I'm pretty uncoordinated so I feel like I might make a mess. I still just want to keep my job and buy the fuckin moccamaster though -- it feels like a no-fuss quality brewer.

Yeah, the job search seems near impossible these days. I'm in a pretty secure spot, job wise, but reaching out and applying to see if I can get something with better pay was a lot of work with little results. I feel like all this LLM/AI shit made the already shitty process of looking for a job worse!

That self-medicating ADHD with massive caffeine intake really resonated with me. I used to just have a constant drip of the worst instant coffee when I worked in a contact center lol.

I rarely adjust the size of the grains - usually only when I'm changing my brewing method. The hand grinder I have is a pain to get a super accurate adjustment, but I probably could experiment more with my electric since adjustment is pretty precise. I usually just buy whatever beans are on discount, so I try not to introduce too many variables.
