Why it matters: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is already $1 billion over budget by one estimate, with more than three months left in the fiscal year. That's alarmed lawmakers in both parties — and raised the possibility of Trump clawing funds from agencies to feed ICE.

Trumps attempt at creating a fascist dictator regime is collapsing.

  1. The Military parade clearly showed he doesn't have the backup of the military.
  2. People are beginning to mass protest, and the no kings protests were way more successful than the parade.
  3. Republican politicians are becoming more reluctant in their support.
  4. Courts are often judging against him.
  5. When Trump ups the ante resistance increases.

That means Trump doesn't really control any part of the nation the way a dictator is supposed to, and his attempts to achieve it are failing.
Obviously the flawed democracy of USA is not safe yet, but if the trend continues, there is hope USA may get through this eventually.

I won't be satisfied that this attempt at fascism has collapsed until we no longer have plain-clothes, masked goons kidnapping people off the street.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

You are right, it has not collapsed yes, but it is collapsing. And I don't think it's possible now for him to finish it. Things looked much worse a month ago.

That is a fair benchmark

I'm sorry but TACO Don continues to flaunt the law without consequences. A crappy parade does not mean he has no support from theemilitary still willing to follow illegal orders

You guys are making progress but cannot relent. So far the biggest damage to TACO has been caused by his own mediocrity and stupidity

I'm not saying Trump isn't awful, and things aren't bad. I also clearly state democracy in USA isn't safe yet.
But Trump is failing more than he is succeeding.

I am not American, but I really hope they will work to improve democracy. The concept of a president controlling the entire administration is both awful and not representative of the population. A democracy that result in a 2 party system is only barely a democracy.

But Trump is failing more than he is succeeding

by what standard?

every way he is failing affect Americans more than himself, that's no consolation

By the standards of what democracy is. Namely representing the will of the people. You simply can't do that when there are only 2 options.

so mild resistance and dirty looks that, in no significant way, are stopping Trump from destroying democracy and the world economy... got it

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The military parade might have been the sickest burn yet, so far.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It was beautiful to see how everybody were bored out of their mind. Nobody enjoyed being there. 🤣

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Oh yeah, that really was an extra cherry in the cherry.

It was such a sad display overall

Don't worry for Trump. Nothing that a good old war can solve... Everybody I'll have to fall in line, or be lined up, in the name of patriotism.

He is probably trying just that, because it's common knowledge that a war normally has the effect that people back the current president/administration while fighting an exterior enemy.
Problem for Trump is, that he can't find a war to fight that is plausibly legitimate. Only a small minority is buying it with Iran, and he doesn't have any other options.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it feels like Iran would be more like the end of Vietnam in terms of public opinion.

I also don't think Iran is going to do anything to make war more appealing (especially given they can just focus efforts on Israel).
