Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

To be honest, I don't have much to say about ongoing geopolitical events that hasn't already been said in previous threads (e.g. with India/Pakistan, Trump/Putin, and of course occupied Palestine), so this is more of a "news roundup" preamble for this week.

As we all know, the US (and the imperial core generally) has only three permitted international actions: sanctions, color revolution, and war. None of these have been going well lately, but sanctions are in particularly dire straits right now. Three examples from the last week or so:

  • The EU is on its 17th sanctions package, apparently, which is surprising, as I thought they were on their 76th or something. It apparently targets Russia's shadow fleet of oil tankers, but I don't think anybody actually gives a shit because we all know it won't achieve anything, so, moving on...

  • The head of Nvidia (as well as many others) have come out and said that the US chip export controls on China have failed, remarking that China's internal motivations to develop alternatives are strong and proceeding rapidly, especially as China's number of skilled scientists is only growing. Nvidia has said that they had a 95% share of China's AI chip market in 2020 or so, but now they only have 50%.

  • Lastly, an interesting one: Iran has received its first set of railway shipment of solar panels from China, and there is hope for accelerating shipments of even more products. Myself and many others have predicted a decoupling of Iran from the West and towards China and Russia (especially if any Western-built product could have Israeli devices implanted into them, such as with the pager terrorist attack on Lebanon's doctors), and having a strong link with China will be a necessary step for Iran and their allies to continue their offensives against Israel.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Nothing ever happens gang will stay winning, rest assured

I’m tired of this nothing ever happens bullshit, things are always happening, it’s just bad things

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 2 points 5 days ago

It stopped being funny a while ago and was factually incorrect as well, there have been continuous crises and decline of the old world order since 2014.

One has to be a secluded suburbanite on a trust fund to think “nothing ever happens”

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine is actively keeping me away from loved ones due to hardships of travel imposed by EU on Russia. I'm fully aware that bad things are happening, they're affecting me too. To me, the point of "nothing ever happens" isn't that no event is happening at any point, it's that big qualitative changes are a consequence of many small quantitative changes, and that looking at isolated quantitative changes isn't enough to discern when the qualitative changes happen, therefore pointing at isolated events and saying "omg this is so relevant and important" is a futile exercise.

People who say "nothing ever happens" should be perma'd off this website. Sick of this bullshit. Nothing is happening in Gaza, huh?

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

Russia loses over half a dozen strategic aircraft (confirmed losses right now, just wait for the satellite imagery, there will be even more losses confirmed over the next few days) as part of its nuclear triad in a few hours, but apparently "nothing ever happens"...

Countervalue strike exchange between Yemen and Israel, with a ballistic missile from Yemen hitting within 500m of the main terminal of Ben Gurion airport in Israel, and Ansarallah/Houthi controlled Yemen losing their only civilian airport and aircraft to Israeli airstrikes, but apparently also "nothing happened"...

India loses four fighter jets and Pakistan has 11 of their military bases hit in a counterforce stand off strike exchange before a ceasefire is called, also filed under "nothing happens"...

This all happened just in this month.

What do the "nothing ever happens" gang consider a notable event, full on nuclear war? WW3? Tactical nuclear strikes? US-Iran hot war? And as you said, Gaza is facing a genocide under Israel's "Gideon's Chariots" full control of Gaza plan.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

you see, those didn't directly affect them, so don't really matter

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Were you directly affected by Ukraine blowing up Russian planes? Because that's the topic of the news I was talking about. Why the fuck are you people accusing me of genocide denial/disregard?

BTW, I have loved ones in Russia that I haven't been able to see in 2 years because of the war and travel restrictions imposed by the EU and Russia, please tell me again how much more directly the blowup of some military vehicles is affecting you.

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It's such reddit-logo behavior. It reminds me of the people who seem to sprint to their computer or phones to be the first to post amerikkka-clap any time they hear about a mass shooting.

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I don't know how you go from the "nothing ever happens" meme to accusing me of genocide denial, I don't think I said anything that despicable. Maybe you should stop weaponizing Palestinians out of nowhere as an argument of how much more empathetic you are?

Regardless, my point is that there's been strategically important events in the ongoing war, but ultimately, despite stuff like Kursk, or the encirclement of many Ukrainian troops as a consequence of US pulling back intelligence for a few weeks under Trump, or many other such events, the conflict continues roughly in the same direction: Russia keeps inflicting attrition losses to Ukraine, and its economy and military production go strong whereas Ukraine simply slowly loses terrain and soldiers at paces it cannot afford to maintain forever. I suspect this will go on roughly the same, hence nothing ever happens, I obviously may be wrong since it's just a meme.
