Humans are messed up in general so it's probably common enough tbh. My childhood was a bit different though. The arguing was never mutual. It was always my dad screaming at my mom while she sits there and takes it. I remember realizing that was abnormal by watching media growing up... realizing that couples are supposed to love each other and that fights are generally a mutual experience, not just one person belittling the other.

Anyway sorry that was oversharing lol

Hey same childhood! My dad would yell at the top of his lungs at my mom and call her a stupid bitch and she would sit there and take it and then silently cry in the kitchen and then ground me when I tried to hug her 🙂

Learned the shit out of computers. They’re the only things in my life that don’t yell at me (if we ignore error messages).

Aww I'm sorry that both of your parents were like that. Luckily my mom is a very sweet person.

And hey! I'm a fellow computer dork too! I'm nowhere near the level of knowledge of many Lemmy users, but I've always been a casual tech/gadget fan since I was a kid. But somehow I never fully built my own PC until just the other day. Was actually a pretty simple process and things today are so much better at plug and play as opposed to long ago. Hope you're still enjoying being a tech nerd haha!

Ya building computers is trivial :) just expensive Lego really. Built my first gaming pc when I moved out and have built a couple more since then. My original gaming pc is now my home server :) lots to learn!

So relatable. Aight lemme overshare a little too (TW: sadness).

My oldest memory is my dad yelling at my mom while 3yo me runs to my room crying, and looking for my teddy bear so I can get a little comfort. Fuck I’m crying again.

I'm assuming since you're older now, you're out of that environment, yeah? It's one silver lining in things I guess. If your teddy bear were sentient I'm sure it would have hugged you back and told you everything was gonna be ok.

Honestly, for me it's a bit weird. I've actually forgotten a lot of the specifics of my childhood. I know my dad would do it, but I don't really remember any specific moments in time or what my responses were. Memory is a weird thing like that. I guess because it was so long ago or something. Dunno.
