The Israeli military began expanding its ground offensive across the Gaza Strip as part of a new operation it dubs "Gideon's Chariots" on Friday. Military forces predominantly consisting of non-reservist, regular units, are operating throughout Gaza's north, center and south.

Massive air strikes, which killed hundreds of Palestinians in recent days, preceded the ground offensive. At least 146 people were killed in the past 24 hours, with 58 killed overnight into Saturday, the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry reported. According to reports from the Gaza Strip, many of those killed are civilians and children.

The expansion of the ground operation appears to be timed to coincide with the end of U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to the Middle East, in which he visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, but not Israel. It remains unclear whether the United States and Israel coordinated the timing and whether the U.S. administration gave the green light for an operation

They haven't waited for a green light since Obama left office.

He actually put his foot down. And Biden as VP wouldn't shut up about how the only way to deal with Israel was to give them everything they want and beg for what we want.

Biden recounted in private that when he was vice president in 2014 and Israel mounted a military assault on Gaza, Obama and his staff rejected his belief, held for decades, that the best way to approach the Israelis is to hug them close but not criticize them, the people familiar with his comments said.

Instead, they said Biden has noted, Obama publicly admonished Israel’s actions and voiced concern for Palestinian civilian deaths early into the 2014 conflict. As a result, Biden has argued, Obama squandered any ability to influence the Israeli government as it invaded Gaza, said the people familiar with his comments.

Trump's loyalty costs some bribes and nice words, but Bibi could call Biden a bitch to his face and Biden would have thanked him for his time.

But it's been almost a decade since Israel had to ask America before doing something
