"fake snow" was asbestos flakes for a long time.

But, as much as it's joked about, large flake asbestos isn't generally going to be a problem. It's a problem when you drill/grind/pulverize into a dust (friable) and inhale it.

That said, if you inherited xmas/winter decorations that has fake snow on it, I'd recommend you get rid of that in a safe way.

Oh jeez, yes sorry, I'm not saying we should bring them back! Just that it wasn't deadly to the touch, etc.

Asbestos should definitely be removed from our surroundings.
