This is exactly what I thought of Russia after their failed invasion of Ukraine. Generally regarded as a super power prior, they put on display how atrophied their millitary had become by not being able to steam roll Ukraine.
yet europeans are still afraid that russia is going to conquer europe somehow.
If they win the war, they will absolutely invade the EU.
they're barely able to advance and even then at very steep costs; their victory will be pyrrhic at best
i doubt very much that they want a nuclear wasteland next to them nor do they have any history of using nuclear weapons; however europe's ally does and they're already in the process of screwing over europe more than russia could ever hope to achieve.
UK and FR have ~500 nukes, more than enough to ruin Russia.
-- against other nations; like in the scenario you were painting.
they could only wish that they were worse than the usa; we're king when it's comes to committing genocides and fostering political violence.
we're so good at it that our victims refuse to believe it happened, even when you have proof.
they WERE the kings; we ARE the king.
definately contenders, but we're more sophisticated at screwing over people; so much so that a majority of the people we've screwed over refused to believe that they've been screwed over, even when you present with them proof that we screwed them over.
Russia wouldn't care, because Putin would be able to hide away on some cozy island in Oceania or wherever.
there wouldn't be anyone left to care after the nuclear holocaust takes place.
They can if they divide us beforehand. Russia's greatest arms aren't rifles or shells or nukes, it's information and sowing dissent in other countries. I am 100% sure Hungary wouldn't be in its current state if Russia wasn't involved somehow.
I'm Mostly just worried about nukes and someone on there side will follow through.
russia doesn't have a history of using nukes against another country, but europe's ally does and they're already in the process of screwing over europe more than russia could ever fantasize about; nevertheless russia is still the key problem somehow.
Only by sheer luck that one crew didn't follow instructions.

that would have been an accident; not a conquest.
OK tankie, you going to say the supression of the Hungarian uprising was an accident next?
Aaaand there we go, the classic tankie "ur a lib" line.
The CIA having any hand in a general uprising against a Stalinist terror is irrelevant considering the number of forced disappearances that were taking place, political opression and the supression of genuine workers unions by the Rakosi & Gero regime.
Stalin and his ilk are burning in hell right alongside Hitler and Kissinger.
Well, yeah? When Russia rolled in Ukraine had already been at war for 6 years. Ukraine was as prepared as you can be against a surprise invasion. Most of the EU probably doesn't even entertain the possibility of an invasion. If Russia were to invade the EU not only would the EU not be prepared for it but Russia would also have the advantage in experience.
I'm not saying Russia would conquer the whole of EU but, if they also take Ukraine, I could see them taking the whole eastern Europe.
They have nukes. Also the nuclear doctrine of Russia is more lax than other countries. Attacking Russia by conventional means is grounds for them to use them.
