Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Who gives a fuck. Do something with your influence instead of letting Trump fuck people over.

This is the first part of that. The top news media in cable tv, podcasting, and social media are all run as maga propaganda and I think that's a massively underrated reason for Trump's winning. The easiest of these to take down is social media, but it requires all the other news-related celebrities to go somewhere else.

Reddit and Lemme are right leaning?

I had no idea, does it seem that way on this post?

[–] TheTetrapod@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Reddit, at least the corporation and increasingly the userbase, is definitely in the process of shifting to the right. Lemmy is the kind of alternative social media the person you're replying to is advocating.

[–] rational_lib@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I admit using somewhat ambiguous adjective placement, but I mean "top news" to also modify "social media" - specifically referring to X which despite being a shithole remains a common place for news reporters and influential political figures and entities to post and read news-related information.

Man's allowed to retire like anyone else. Save the country yourself. When's the last time you went camping or shooting?

Yeah the silence and not seeing ex living Presidents including Bush speak out on Trumps actions is bizarre to say the least.

People with the most capacity of reach dont use it.

[–] Tire@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago

Because it’s a game to them all. It’s rich vs poor and Trump’s bad decisions don’t hurt the rich so there’s zero urgency from people like Obama. They’ll still go on their private jet vacation next week regardless.

[–] irish_link@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dude, fuck off. This is an article about Obama, not Obama saying "hey look at me i joined it." In fact the first items were advocating for the ACA showing how it helped people. Trying to push people to stand up together for the common good.

Do you mean somthing like that when you say "Do something with your influence?"

[–] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

That was a milquetoast message of hope at best, to the same level of thoughts and prayers.

Endorsing people actually on the ground trying to resist the Nazification of the US would already be a big step up instead of a Obama giving a medal to Obama level meme of self congratulatory pat on the back.

Who knows, maybe the system has declined too far beyond saving. Maybe we're already in Russia-stage of "democracy" where dissent gets them out of a window? We already have a former US Attorney dead. 🤷‍♂️

I can think of two possibilities, either they think don't get in the way when your enemy is making a mistake. If they can get to 2026, maybe it will be a democratic landslide. Or he knows where the bodies are buried for both sides, if there ever were two sides and they are terrified of getting exposed.

The wait and see strategy doesn't work and it won't work now.
