Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

The group would be for discussion of political topics but without labels. Contributors would not identify as on the left or the right. Simple discussions based on your personal thoughts on issues.

Posts would be both linked articles and your own self posts about an issue. There would be no cries of consider the source. You can post a link from the NY Times or RedState. I'm using those just as examples of what ends discussions because your political affiliation reflexively causes you not to believe a particular source. Something is either true or not and truth is not dependent on the source that raises the issue.

Name calling would not be tolerated. If you rudely call out another contributor you would be banned for one month.

We always talk about those disillusioned with reddit and trying to get them to try Lemmy. I don't remember reddit ever having a successful group to discuss politics that wasn't slanted.

For this to be worth the trouble we will need at least a beginning of at least 10 users that would contribute to the group. And at least a few willing to be mods of the group. The group would be No Labels Politics.

Respond if you are willing to contribute, be a mod or both. And I will set it up.

Its a tough question because lemmy is for a cleary majority a variation of political left. ML is infamous for being tankies for example. One reason i observed for this is because corporate sites, you know which ones ars increasingly leaning if not full on political right.

There are right leaning communities oc but i doubt there is much truly Neutral. You may also encounter a lot of defederation with those communities to protect targeted communities from fascism

The far right takeover happening in the US is not helping because what even is the center position at this point? Feels like a full on information war.

Having said that i fully agree that there should be neutral ground if not purely on the basis that the word is not America and there is plenty of political spectrum in the world besides (Anti)Facism.

I have noticed that the big political communies all allow US posts because we are still reasonably small. As we grow we will see more diversity.

Which brings me to the my last point, do not be afraid of empty communities. Be the user you want to see and subscribe to it, maybe post something. Someday someone may and as an early member you get the privilege of helping to shape it towards what you believe we need.

I agree with you regarding Lemmy and leaning left. But none of us actually learn anything if we are in the right or left hive mind. And though it would be a long shot to form a group with no labels re "no tribes" it would be interesting if we could do it. Lemmy has far too many "dead" communities already. Posts and comments are 6 months or longer ago. We don't need an other which is what we would have without upfront support
