Huh, I always assumed it was a con/noncon thing. Some people like to role play helpless and attacked, but in a safe situation with someone they want . I assumed it was just holding by the neck, and was freaked out by that idea

There can be a degree of power play involved, but that is contextual and intent matters.

You can grab your partner by the neck firmly to infer domination or gain physical leverage with or without the intent to compress the trachea to restrict airflow, but applying pressure to the arteries of the neck for the purpose of reducing blood flow to the brain for enhancing an orgasm is a different grip.

The majority of neck grabbing, as often seen in porn, is the absolute wrong way to apply pressure to the arteries in the neck to enhance an orgasm; so it is just a domination or leverage thing. You can seriously injure a partner trying to grab their whole neck to achieve a hypoxic orgasm and even doing it properly with too much force can damage an artery. It takes almost no force to achieve the desired results, under 5lbs total, and you will see guys death gripping a partner. It only takes 15psi to damage a trachea and that is easy for most guys to do. So guys, a firm grip is fine, but don't choke them and keep pressure off of their windpipe ffs.

It is honestly hard to do a carotid choke properly and with the right timing without experience with your partner along with experience in doing it. Just shifting position, being off by a few seconds, swallowing, or moving your head can totally spoil the chances of having what could be an earth shattering convulsive extended orgasm for any gender.
