The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I was promoting Lemmy in the place that I was supposed to.

You waiting for 2 years to appeal or it took them w years to reinstate your account? Lol

[–] Mickey7@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I initially appealed and was rejected. I just moved onto other social media and spending less time with it in general. But about a month ago there was a discussion in this group regarding the move to free speech initially on X and then on Facebook. There was speculation that reddit would stop being so heavy handed with their bans. So after 2 years I appealed again. Said the required I promise not to break the rules, and the next morning I was up and running again.

Most, but not all, groups on Lemmy actually allow free civilized discussion. And bans on Lemmy are hardly ever permanent. Reddit should learn from Lemmy.

Drag got permabanned on the first offence on the new 196 for telling a suicidal person that it's better to commit luigi than commit suicide. They don't like it when you promote violence against neo-nazis and ceos on that community, even if you're doing it to give someone a reason not to die.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

For the record the user was also disabled and their disability played directly into drag’s heinous encouragement. This ableist violent rhetoric was deemed inappropriate both by 196 community mods and Blahaj admins for different yet related reasons. That behavior was violent, triggering, and absolutely unacceptable for any instance and community that values minority or oppressed groups even a little.

This is following the user’s real history of similar suicide encouragement in other communities.

cc @9bananas@lemmy.world because I am just sick of this user getting to spread lies and twisted truths about a community whose mods’ only sin is having basic empathy.

yo, read my comment again.

it wasn't specifically about the ban drag received:

my comment was only in reference to the mass bans of any remotely positive, or even just neutral (and my case not even directly connected) comment about luigi...

it has nothing to do with any ableist or bigoted shit, just about the ridiculous zealotry by the .world mods specifically about "promoting violence" and making up rules on the spot, on violation of the .world ToS and rules of conduct, which explicitly state that ban should always cite the rule being broken.

i know exactly nothing about drags behavior that led to their ban, but since i do know how trigger happy .world mods are about luigi comments and posts, i made the assumption that it was just that.

thank you for providing the relevant context.

that said, please keep in mind that my comment is not in support of drag and their behavior, and is instead solely a criticism of the general mod behavior on .world and asklemmy specifically.

honestly shouldn't be surprised, the ask[thing] communities tend to have overzealous moderation on any platform...

oops! i absolutely read and appreciated your comment before commenting but maybe i didn’t make it clear that i don’t have any ill will toward you at all and just wanted to loop you in. i do apologize if me ccing you caused any sense of abrasion—wasn’t intentional at all if so!

just making sure that history doesn’t get rewritten :)

[–] 9bananas@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

ah, that's what it was!

i was pretty confused by the cc, thought i got caught in some drama there!

all good, thanks for the clarification!

[–] 9bananas@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

that's all of .world...

.world has some really odd ideas about "promoting violence", especially given that there are literally nazis marching the streets in the U.S. and germany...like, the nazis can scream "kill all the [insert slur]!" on the streets just fine, but woe be the anti-fascist on .world that says that maybe, just maybe, it's time to do something about, you know, THE NAZIS.

I don't know if I agree on the Lemmy portion lol. I will readily admit that I definitely deserved a few of those bans but the rest were completely made up by an angry mod or automated because they saw I was regularly being downvotes (again no differing opinions allowed in most places it seems).

I think moderation on a site like this is difficult no matter what. Reddit has the problem of something like 6 people having ultimate say over the entire site with absolutely zero way to contact them or anything. Then the individual sub moderators are some of the moth pathetic power tripping bottom feeders known to mankind. I got banned from subs for leaving comments criticizing other subs that they hated. Simply for leaving a comment on that sub they didn't like (which I was also not a fan of) they automatically banned me from a handful of other subs immediately lol. So stupid.

Lemmy has the same issue with individual moderators being ban happy losers that will just make up a reason for a ban instead of allowing an opinion they disagree with to be seen. But at least there aren't a small handful of people here who can ban you from the entirety of the platform (unless I am mistaken and they totally can).

[–] Mickey7@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

I would agree that there are some Lemmy groups that are ban happy. Or they remove posts that they don't like. No problem. I just move on from those groups. Mods on Lemmy or other social media platforms forget 2 things. They are doing it for free. It's not like they are on a paid mission. And secondly they are just reducing the traffic to their group.
