And consequently the USA is going to seriously lag behind the rest of the world in AI technology, because their companies can't work with the most advanced open source LLM.

Not if we believe that bill. Deepseek is still a copyrighted intellectual property from the PRC even though it's distributed under an MIT license.

Maybe we have a lawyer here that can confirm.

NAL, but done a lot of work with software licensing. If the source and model are all licensed under MIT, then Deepseek has allowed anyone else to copy, sell, etc. the software. But that doesn't stop Deepseek being the intellectual property of its creators (and thus its 'import' prohibited per the wording of the bill).
