It's kind of the first major AAA international release by a Chinese studio so that's why it was considered a big deal

It’s not just that, Journey to the West is literally the most popular cultural staple of the Chinese/East Asian culture. It transcends age, gender, even political beliefs and national boundaries. Even people who don’t care about video games paid at least some attention to it.

IGN China gave it a perfect 10/10 score. It got into these people’s heads coming from making shitty mobile games.
