So... wouldn't that make them all siblings? Will there be enough genetic diversity so that the species doesn't die due to health complications?

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We can guess it is not going to be the same mothers, so that risk should be reduced quite a bit. Most are all half-brothers and half-sisters, unless from same litter.

Otherwise there would be a hero mom who gave birth to 800 kids.

gave birth to 800 kids

In this case, it would be "laid 800 eggs", right?

They're all half siblings. They'll definitely be plagued by low genetic diversity and will have higher rates of genetic disease and stillbirth but the species should be able to make it through that with careful management

All same father -> all siblings

All siblings -> incest

incest -> many bad health problems

Nope, thanks for letting me know do.

Was messing with the settings earlier and carelessly turned that on ^ ^;

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like something a bot would say.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Or possibly someone who uses exec rather than xargs.
