Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I'd say "we" is a bit of an exaggeration...
Who distances themselves from thinking celebrity parties are cool? Is this that retroactive distancing stuff? Like hindsight posturing? Now that we know about the rapes you never thought rich famous celebrities partying were cool back in 2005?
I'm pretty sure "that stuff" that kandoh is referring to is child rape.
Hey whaddya know they were. That's unfortunate.
Just to be clear. In 2005 I thought the celebrities partying was cool. Had I known about the P Diddling I wouldn't have thought it was cool .
Stray Cat Blues by the Rolling Stones was a very popular song about having sex with a 15 year old, but for live performances they switch it to 13 year old, the live audience loves it.
People still love David Bowie even though he raped Lori Maddox when she was 15.
I remember my dad talking at a family bbq about how hot he thought middle school girls were. Everyone else laughed along with him.
People were pretty open about it before the internet created an environment where they could be held accountable publicly.
I was 28 years old in 2005. I absolutely did not think any of that was cool.
Anecdotal evidence which could also be construed as you protecting your social status. I can't accept your rebuttal.
Sorry, are you seriously claiming I was okay with pedophilia in 2005? Seriously?
After Woody Allen and Michael Jackson a few years before that?
Fucking R. Kelly got arrested in 2002. You think no one gave a shit?
Where were you in 2005?
I'm not claiming anything about you. I'm just stating your rebuttal is anecdotal evidence and there is social incentive for you to make the claim that you are.
Both continued to produce commercially successful works well into the 2010s
A whole year before the remix to ignition became a huge hit in '03. All my friends in middle-school loved that song.
Raping children was something that was generally permitted if you were considered high status enough.
Your initial post:
Again, I did not think it was cool. You speak only for yourself.
It was a royal we
So you were just talking about yourself?
My mistake, your majesty.
That is the joke, yes
That's not a joke, your majesty. That's just you sounding like you don't know what the royal "we" is.
Calling it the Royal We was the joke. The original We was a reference to 'we as a society', which you got extremely defensive about because you interpreted it as me calling you a pedophile.
You had many opportunities to clarify that before now. Your refusal to do so makes me think that's not what you meant.
Also, jokes are supposed to be funny.
I think in your fervor to make sure everyone knew you were absolutely not attracted to children, like at all, in anyway, that's crazy why would you even suggest that hahaha — that you maybe were unable to see the point I was making.
Sounds like your point, again, is that I'm a pedophile but I'm hiding that. Something you originally said you weren't calling me.
Make up your mind. Am I a pedophile or not? If I am, please report me to the Lemmy administrators. If not, I'm really not interested in your point because I have never excused pedophilia and I never will and anyone who did in 2005 should be ashamed of themselves. You included.
