I know it's a waste of time to argue on the internet, but sometimes it's the only thing keeping my brain sharp, you know?
If I gently point out someone may need to rethink their position, and they decide I was actually just personally attacking them and they come for me, I literally crack my knuckles and go in. Nuclear.

Indeed. Sometimes challenging idiots can help elucidate our views and sharpen our arguments.
But sometimes idiots are not so idiotic. They might be there to drive the narrative and distract us from posting a more scientific or humanistic viewpoint. iow, they might be shills.
