Right? I have never seen it advertised in this context, it's about 2 teenage girls and some old ladies dressed in middle eastern robes? WTF

It's about an english girl with heritage from the indian subcontinent wanting to be a professional football player, and she can "bend it like beckham" (take a free kick where the ball flies through the air in a curved path, instead of a straight one)

I didn't even realize it was that old. I was a whole-ass adult working in my first career when that came out.
For whatever reason I had it in my brain that it came out after 2010.

Anyway I'm pretty sure this movie was originally advertised as being about David Beckham the blonde soccer player. And I'm pretty sure that's how they lured audiences into theaters.
