Hello, a bug experienced a week ago or so. I was playing freerunner, no challenge (learnign freerunner was challenge enough). I wanted to use seeds to get XP potion (I was in floor 23 or 24, level 29) I used black/black/green, wishing to get XP, or at worse, health. -> I got a Fire potion. peeved, I tried 3 green --> got poison. I tried, 1 grey, 1 pink, 1 yellow, I got Ice potion I tried a few other combination of 3, and almost always for a potion unrelated to the seeds.

Hey Dungeoneers, Shattered v4.0.0 has been released!

v4.0.0 is arguably Shattered's biggest update yet! There's a massive new quest, a bunch of new in-game art, 6 new enchantments, and plenty smaller changes and adjustments.

This patch addresses some medium-sized bugs, including inability to use Chinese translation.

To celebrate the upcoming release of Shattered Pixel Dungeon v4.0.0, here's a seed to get you a Grim Assassin's Blade +4 in 50 seconds. Fully ID'd and meeting the strength requirements.

Someone's about to get really hurt.

Just for fun, I tried dumping it on a charging Evil Eye. The stored damage had decayed to around 200, and it did 63 damage to the eye. Not bad, but not enough to kill it.

Killing a slug with the Runic Slash stored a lot of extra damage!

Have been seeing it a few times, and each time I find it really great. Fits the mood perfectly.

For the curious, teaser on dev's blog.

0-challenge. I played as a Freerunner, of course, since I was dumping into a thrown weapon.

I didn't use any upgrades until after I had the Troll made the knives +2. I got lucky and found a +2 Sword at one point, and +1 Scale Armor. Those helped a lot.

I used one upgrade as a Scroll of Enchantment and got Corrupting which was great. I was corrupting enemies left and right. I ended up having to craft like 6 Magical Infusions. That's a lot of energy, but I did have the Alchemist's Toolkit which gave some for free.

My trinket was a +3 13-Leaf Clover, which was both fun and maddening. Hitting for minimum damage (often zero early in the game) for 5 turns in a row will have you cursing RNGesus! It was kinda nice when I found an early Sickle. It was only +0, but it topped out at 20 damage. I abused sneak attacks to make sure I didn't miss, and it hit hard when the clover rolled right.

I burned through all 4 Ankhs. Mostly because I'm so stubborn about using health potions sometimes. Also because I was running around with +0 leather armor. I forgot to save my cloth armor and sold it. I was momentarily tempted to take the cloth armor out of the new vault quest, but a +3 Crossbow was a much better choice.

I think it would be fun and not break it too much to allow the hero to take one non-class-specific item with them into the vault. That would take the start of the vault to be less deadly and make the run depend a bit less on the randomness in the room layout.

The catch is that the player would still be able to take just a single item out of the vault. So taking something into the vault likely means leaving it there in exchange for something better. And if not leaving it, it means taking nothing as a reward for the quest. Except for last shop, which is kind of a reward.

I think it fits the lore of the quest - the teleport to the vault magic is limited in the amount of things it can transfer between the vault and the regular dungeon. It just means the limitation is the same on the way in as it is on the way out.

I only succeeded in this quest about four times so far. And failed three times. It is quite deadly indeed. There was one run when I had good luck before that quest and had all the equipment I could've needed. That time I could've taken my +7 plate armor of thorns with me for a quick win and would've took it back out with me. Just to have the last shop unlocked.

And it does not require any new UI - the "select a single item to take with you" UI is done already for the teleport back.

I got all 10 tokens then tapped on the door to walk to it, and I got the error. If you walk a step away and do it again, it'll happen again. Seems to me like this shouldn't happen. It should either open the interface for the "Strange Door" or not do anything at all.

I can't reach across my phone screen and I'd like to be able to play Shattered without cackhandedly fumbling my phone so much.

Right in the first zone, I faced the most insane fight I probably ever had in PD. Around 25 mobs encircled me, coming in waves and never offering an escape route. I took a bottle of healing potion, pushed my way to the nearby Sungrass and got to work.

And wouldn't you know, they're all slain. You don't mess with me! :D

Tried starting several randomiser runs on the 4.0 beta. Seems like the flashing notification on the randomiser button no longer appears? Tried on my old phone with 3.3 version and still works on that.

This patch implements a Chinese translation and edge-to-edge UI overhaul from Shattered 2.2.4, reworks Endure and fixes bugs.

This release now also requires Java 11 and Android 5+ to play!

Played the imp quest with mage. Got ten tokens. Got blooming staff plus three. Didn't work. Could not zap with it. Had to escape boss fight.

Worked ok with huntress. Got spirit bow. Worked just fine. Killed boss elemental. Yeah!

I really like it. I like the stealth mechanic, and the Shahrazad style game within a game. It's fun to be scrounging around, finding a +3 weapon, and feeling like you're suddenly doing ok. Much like the main game, except it's a little bite-sized game.

Perhaps in the future, consider making it a mini game you can start from the title screen! I'm imagining players could pick their level (maybe up to some reasonable maximum appropriate for the quest), then try to beat the vault, choosing their talents when they enter. It could be a fun challenge to see how low of a level you can start at and still win. It would be extra hard, though, because no items would be ID'ed yet. I'm curious what others think of the idea.

The colors and shading on the new runestones make them difficult to differentiate visually, especially with low screen brightness or night mode. I often play on low brightness at bedtime and it's really hard to see. There needs to be more contrast between the color on the stone and the stone itself.

Stylistic comment: the new sprites for runestones and seeds look like eggs. Too perfectly round in their shape

Question to Evan: what's your preferred way to provide beta feedback? This is my first time getting involved in beta even though I've been playing for 10+ years

Overall I like the new design. My only gripe concerns the runestones, which I find a too "voluminous" compared to the other designs. I think it comes down to the gradient black to brightest grey being a bit too strong compared to other items. Yellow is tuned to current gradient so would be impacted by a change.

On a similar note scrolls' darker band in the middle could be a tad white brighter for the same reason, but they don't compete too bad with the rest of the game so it's just a personal taste rather than the item standing out from others in the inventory.

The patch notes say this was added on purpose, but then say it was removed as a bug in beta-2. Did you forget you added it on purpose, or am I missing something? Is there a differnce between "from" and "in" the fog of war?
