PSA: if the installation fails, disable the Desktop experience before the install. If you don't, you'll end up in a bootloop. I'm writing after factory reset... If you turn it off before the install, it will succeed. Otherwise it will roll back. But if you re-enable it after successful update, it will die after every boot. Hence the factory reset, as I didn't have USB debugging enabled and couldn't turn the feature off via ADB.

Librephone aims to close the last gaps between existing distributions of the Android operating system and software freedom. The FSF has hired experienced developer Rob Savoye (DejaGNU, Gnash, OpenStreetMap, and more) to lead the technical project. He is currently investigating the state of device firmware and binary blobs in other mobile phone freedom projects, prioritizing the free software work done by the not entirely free software mobile phone operating system LineageOS.

Before I try to figure out how to pay for BuzzKill while using LineageOS + microG, can anybody using this app (which people rave about) tell me if it's capable of drawing a notification dot (preferably with different colors for different types of notifications) on the screen when the screen is already powered on??

I do not have an AMOLED display, and I am looking for a notification LED replacement that (ironically, I guess) only shows when the screen is already on, either actively using the phone or the lock screen.

My actual problem is that I have ADHD and my brain has done the thing where notifications have become Part Of The Environment and I no longer see them or remember to check them.

All the notification LED replacement apps I've found so far are for AMOLED / always-on display, neither of which I have. Plus most of them are trashy and filled with ads.

The new attack, named Pixnapping by the team of academic researchers who devised it, requires a victim to first install a malicious app on an Android phone or tablet. The app, which requires no system permissions, can then effectively read data that any other installed app displays on the screen. Pixnapping has been demonstrated on Google Pixel phones and the Samsung Galaxy S25 phone and likely could be modified to work on other models with additional work. Google released mitigations last month, but the researchers said a modified version of the attack works even when the update is installed.

There many people with dyslexia and other stuff like that and using some other font like comic sans can make a huge difference on them, yet there is no way to easily (I think) change the font on our devices. We should be able to just download and load the font. What do you think?
