I've known people who become spiteful/hate-filled over time because they like to have a punching bag, someone underneath them if they have sorry lives. Some of them just plain ol like to hate people. This is not nuanced. Some people are just terrible, awful human beings. We don't have to cross examine their upbringing to understand this.

One of my best friends growing up around berkeley had hippy parents, he is now a racist trumper. Parents had nothing to do with it. And his half sibling is part african american.
