How's the job hunt going?

All the more reason to keep the fediverse alive.

That dude left out a couple negatives.

First, all games will default to the Deck's output resolution. You need to go to the game's settings before launching to set the resolution to match the TV's.

Since running a game at a higher resolution hurts performance, you'll usually get worse performance docked than handheld unless you're ok with using a lower resolution intentionally.

There are various issues with external controllers. Here are a few that I've had personally:

  1. PS5 controller developing input lag over the course of an hour. Need to disconnect and reconnect.

  2. Double inputs caused by Steam Input happening on top of a game's built-in input

  3. Some games not correctly interpreting multiple controllers because the Deck's controls still register as a controller while docked

  4. Some games like Stardew Valley not accepting controller input without going into settings and reordering

  5. Not reconnecting to Bluetooth controllers automatically, needing to go to settings and manually connect (for some reason this doesn't happen with Xbox controllers for me)

Unrelated to controllers, there are some other dock issues:

  1. Constant audio buzzing and disconnect while docked. Need to enable Developer mode and change a setting to fix.

  2. Severe UI slowdown while docked.

These are all with the official Steam dock. So yeah, it's not the seamless Switch-like experience a lot of Deck users pretend it is.

All of these games would be terrible on phones. They're designed with controllers or keyboards in mind. I can't imagine trying to do a Resident Evil boss fight with touch controls.

Interesting that the Journal app won't be ready at launch. Doesn't seem like that much of a groundbreaking software.

For some reason this post reminds me of the good old N64 days where you had to load a vibration pak into the controller. Good time, good times.

The quality has definitely gotten worse with every iPhone generation. I had an official leather case on my 12 and the layer of leather began peeling off of the plastic within a few months.

Nowadays I just use a rubber spigen case and I'm very happy with it.

You will appreciate the story of 2 a lot more if you have played 1. They closely tie together.

Also, RDR1 is a spectacular game. 2 is better and worse in various ways. 1 is more video-gamey; 2 is more simulation.

That said, if you're not all that interested in 1, 2 is just fine on its own!

8bitdo is the way to go for sure. Can't beat that dpad. I personally use the 8BitDo Ultimate since it has a 2.4 connector built into the dock. I have the dock plugged into my Steam Deck dock, so it's perfect for emulation on the big screen. Then if I turn on my Switch, I flip the toggle to Bluetooth on the controller and it becomes a Switch Pro controller.

To quote Dunkey in his Xenonlade 2 video: why are her boobs bigger than her head??!

I read a book called Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents. My mom is similar, and it gave me a lot of insight into why she behaves the way she does, and how I may have developed unhealthy coping mechanisms as a result. Highly recommend.

The only thing you'd be missing is the anti-glare screen that comes with the top model.

My friend and I bought trucks around the same time. Mine is a simple tradesman Ram, no bells and whistles, primarily for moving and hauling stuff that can't fit in my wife's sedan.

I'm a pretty passive driver. Live and let live, y'know?

My friend had a similar personality when he first got his Tundra (of course with all the extras he can afford). Then he goes and spends $10,000 on a lift, winch, and floodlights. Now he's like a different person. He drives super aggressively, whipping round corners, weaving through traffic going 20mph over on the highway. He was driving me through some quiet neighborhood the other day and nearly mowed over a cyclist. I asked him what the hell he was doing and he shrugged and said "if she's gonna ride a bike in the street, she's gotta look out for trucks. Not my fault if she doesn't see me"

TL;DR - truck drivers are fine, a truck is a tool like any other vehicle. Lifting your truck turns you into a redneck scumbag overnight though apparently.

Since they announced the remake of Super Mario RPG, I've found myself playing the original again.

In fact, I have a few classics that I still play regularly.

  • Zelda ALttP
  • Super Metroid
  • Metroid Prime (Switch remaster is 🔥)
  • Kirby Air Ride (City Trial is still my go-to party game with my 30 year old friends)
  • Super Mario 64

What about you guys?
