Honestly even if everyone agreed to a linear story, they can jump the rails without even knowing unless you have clear and explicit communication. DMs should be willing to say "hey, you can do this, but just so you know I never considered this action and might need to make up some nonsense on the fly or take a break to do some new prep" if they think it's necessary. Clear communication beats hiding behind the curtain for the sake of immersion every time.

I was a player in a campaign a while back where this basically happened - we all knew the DM had plans and thought we were following them, but he revealed at the end that pretty much the last half of the campaign had been panicked improvisation of material that he wasn't happy with, because at one point the NPCs we'd been traveling with got on a boat to a new continent and invited us along, and in absence of other clear plot hooks we said yes. Apparently all the prep was on the previous continent and he riffed a ton of interactionless filler descriptions, a random dungeon, and a half-baked new plot, rather than saying "you can go with them but to be clear you'd be leaving my prep". In our particular group's case, we would have happily changed our mind on that basis, but even if we'd gotten on the boat we would have been in a position to understand and enjoy the new adventure better knowing that everyone (including the DM) was venturing into the unknown together.

I'm not a lawyer, but I think this would be on archivetopia. I think the question would be whether healthcorp had taken reasonable care to preserve these records, or had been negligent by leaving them entirely in the hands of archivetopia. It seems to me that the former would be the case, and that archivetopia has failed to appropriately safeguard those files, if a random employee can delete them without any procedures in place to prevent that or to keep additional backups.

Obviously there are multiple points of failure here - any one out of healthcorp, archivetopia, or the employee could have acted differently to prevent this. But if healthcorp had a reasonable expectation that handing these documents over to archivetopia would meet their obligations to preserve them, they should be in the clear - just as they would be if their document warehouse met all health and safety regulations but somehow burned down anyway. In both cases, they did what they could but events beyond their control resulted in data loss. In both cases, there is still a question about reasonable care: Did their warehouse meet all safety requirements? Did they have good reason to believe that these documents would be safe with archivetopia? If the answer to those questions is no, they are still at fault. If yes, they are in the clear.

On top of this, archivetopia is certainly at fault (multiple parties may be in the wrong here). And of course, the employee is at fault, although I don't know if they'd be legally culpable or if it would be an internal matter.

Not a conclusive answer, but I hope this helps to clarify some of the considerations involved.

Do you have any additional info about the changes they're making to the mission? I didn't see that in the article

Honestly I think this is the point of confusion. This guy has somehow never heard the word used anywhere other than the widespread military usage and his own field. Weird that that's the case, but given that starting point I don't think it's crazy for him to say "why are people in my field acting like we've fought in a war? Maybe we should chill and take ourselves less seriously".

Obviously there's the additional problems of not googling things before trying to make a public point, and apparently doubling down when corrected. But I see where a sufficiently sheltered person could get there at least.

You people make me sick.

A toast sandwich consists of only these following items. Bread. More bread (usually toasted). This entire community consist of "double-deckers". Almost every "toast" sandwich i see on here has other spreads added to it. The fact that this community is called "toastsandwich" is nothing short of utter blasphemy. Let me start out by saying I have nothing against double-deckers, I just hate their association with sandwiches that are not toast sandwiches. Adding toast to your butter sandwich? It's called a butter double-decker. Totally different. Want to add mayo and some pretentious bread crumbs with salt? I don't know what the hell you'd call that but it's not a toast sandwich. I would be more than willing to wager I've eaten more toast sandwiches in my 21 years than any of you had in your entire lives. I have one almost everyday and sometimes more than just one sandwich. Want to personalize your toast sandwich? Use a mix of different toastedness levels or use sourdough or french bread. But if you want to add some olive oil and take a picture of it, make your own community entitled "double-deckers" because that is not a fucking toast sandwich. I'm not a religious man nor am I anything close to a culinary expert. But as a bland white british male I am honestly the most passionate person when it comes to toast sandwiches and water soup. All of you foodies stay the hell away from our toast sandwiches and stop associating your double-decker sandwiches with them. Yet again, it is utter blasphemy and it rocks me to the core of my pale being. Shit, I stopped lurking after 3 years and made this account for the sole purpose of posting this. I've seen post after post of peoples "toast sandwiches" all over lemmy and it's been driving me insane. The moment i saw this community this morning I finally snapped. Hell, I may even start my own community just because I know this one exists now.

You god damn heretics. Respect the toast sandwich and stop changing it into whatever you like and love it for it what it is. Or make your damn double-decker sandwich and call it for what it is. A double-decker.

Why would we base our definition of AI on fiction, rather than using the definition from computer science, which is where the term originated?

It's been forever since I read it, but I think the cool suit was covering himself in sandtrout, which eventually led to the wormy fascism?

I did think more or less the same thing on seeing this meme though, in that my first reaction was "wait, wasn't that God Emperor?"
