People will use any social media even if its bad.
I don't think the majority of people will ever stop using a plataform just because of ethics. Boycotting on large scale doesn't seem to work for mainstream services.
I've always thought it's weird, kind of childish, to downvote posts just because you disagree with them. I usually downvote posts that are low-quality, rude comments or misinformation.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think a Discord clone would need e2e encryption. Some large Discord servers have hundreds of thousands of users. I just think that if you want a small private communication channel, something like a Signal group would work better.
I think you can do it, but some people will struggle. As others have already mentioned, humans are social animals. Many studies conclude that social connection is one of the biggest factors that boosts well-being (https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/the-importance-of-connections-ways-to-live-a-longer-healthier-life/), this doesn't necessarily mean that you should marry someone and become a social butterfly, it just means that you should avoid isolation for long periods of time.

I also struggle to read some cursive handwriting, especially when the letters are more angular, like super italic.
So if what you said is true, then it's going to be really hard for federated social media to get mass adoption.
Could you elaborate?
