Even before this deal, France and allegedly Israel (the UAE too, but they're not western) was already funding the RSF. seems the west has already made up their mind.

Not implying that russia is a better choice.

Jesus fucking christ, i knew the holocaust was horrible, and terrifying, but that sounds like hell on earth. It's much more different and heartbreaking to hear his story directly, instead of just reading about auschwitz.

For three years too?

Please tell him that i'm sorry that he had to go through that.

Firstly, my condolences for your great granduncle.

Since it has been 80 years for him now, does he remember his experience at Auschwitz as just another old memory? (Albeit, a quite important one) Or does he still remember it as a traumatic memory, as if it happened only a couple of years ago?

Sorry if this sounds stupid, or insensitive.

My favorite flag of all time. It was firstly used in the Arab Revolt, designed by sir Mark Sykes.

After the Arab Revolt, it was used for the Kingdom of Hejaz.

Most famously, the flag went on to inspire most flags in the Arab world, and the legacy of the flag lives on through the flags of Palestine, Jordan, Sudan, Kuwait, and more.

Bluesky may be a circle-jerk, but at least it isn't a literal neo nazi platform. We still have a ways to go till the fediverse goes mainstream.

Accelerationism. Literally everybody but them understands this is a fucking stupid idea.

This even happens every US election season, a lot of them think the worse candidate will bring on the glorious revolutionâ„¢! and finally bring them a communist utopia. Never happens, because they do nothing to even advance their own cause lmao.

After your first post, i've thought about your points, and i've changed my opinions a little.

I agree, we should replace the default lemmy UI as a whole. Out with it. But photon wasn't designed to be a "default" UI. It was designed as an alternative.

The point of a default UI is to be as accessible as possible, yet still functional. That's why most users on the fediverse usually use a 3rd party client (Including me, i use photon + raccoon on mobile). While the current lemmy UI checks the "performance" box, the functionality box? not so much. It feels like everytime i use it i am overwhelmed with information density, and the auto expand feature implementation is just bad. Photon does the opposite. It checks the functionality box, but scratches the performance box. Even on a modern PC, photon is choppy for me, and the frosted glass effect is not helping.

I don't think we should have a default lemmy UI, as in, every instance uses the same UI. As i said in the first post, it should be up to the instance maintainer to choose their own UI. This comes with its own problems. Lemmy.world's photon is outdated, and so is lemdro.id.

Ultimately, this is in the hands of the instance maintainers, and Xylight himself. He is rewriting photon for more performance, so my answer may change.

Mostly mixed. The way i think it's a weakness is because I'm an anti authoritarian leftist, and i'd like a stronger anarchist/libertarian community on lemmy. Despite hexbear/lemmygrad/lemmy thriving, Solarpunk and dbzer0 feel a little lacking community wise. I'd also like a diverse political community, in general.

Another con is that if you even just disagree with a [bastard] moderator, they'll immediately ban you. Happens on lemmy.world with being anti-zionist, happens on lemmy.ml under the guise of 'rule 1' for literally just criticizing a mod such as dessalines.

But i also think it's a pro due to the lack of far-right content on lemmy. I remember on reddit casually seeing disgusting content, such as blatant racism (Such as arabs being called sand n-rs, Or racism against asians/immigrants in general on r/canada + r/europe) and most of that is obscure on lemmy.

I'm not denying that the Lemmy community doesn't have problems, Lord no. But it's much better than most other platforms.

As much as i love photon, i don't think it should be the default. The default lemmy ui is pretty slick and lightweight, even if it is kind of bad. Photon can be sluggish, and overwhelming for some.

I think they should just improve the default UI (which they are currently), and leave it for the user to decide.
