They are probably right,

“Wayne Disposal is a Subtitle C landfill that is highly engineered with multiple safety measures in place and frequent inspections...It’s probably vast overkill, but that’s okay

but getting ahead of the OMGosh! this is fine memegreatlakesnow.org/2024/08/sout… @michigan

of course what Miller misses is that all of this government oversight really messes with the actual price of water. I for one suspect water is far greater value than the capitalists claim candgnews.com/news/miller-advo…

The YouTube kids app is so incredibly useless in order to comply with government regulations that all our kids use our accounts. Which also sucks.

Republicans and Democrats qualify for the ballot automatically. The West campaign did the hard work by collecting over 25,000 signatures of Michigan voters attesting they think their neighbors should have a right to vote for him, but the SOS denies that because an official in Colorado didn't dot her i's correctly. freep.com/story/news/politics/…

Pope Francis Center (PFC) today begins a new era for ending chronic homelessness in Detroit with the opening of its Bridge Housing Campus, a $40 million facility that provides comprehensive transitional services under one roof.

Born out of a desire to address the underlying reasons people live on the streets, the Bridge Housing Campus is the culmination of decades of PFC’s experience, research and dedication to helping the chronically homeless, one of the most challenging populations to serve.

“Putting people in a house or apartment before addressing issues such as substance abuse or mental health doesn’t work for everybody,” said Fr. Tim McCabe, SJ, PFC president and CEO. “Our facility is a game-changer in how it allows those experiencing homelessness to have agency in their own healing. They decide how they want to progress, while we give them the support necessary to chart a better path in life.”

The 60,000 square-foot Bridge Housing Campus sits on 5.3 acres of land in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood. In addition to 40 furnished studio apartments, the facility features a gymnasium, commercial kitchen, free medical and dental clinic, library and classrooms, barbershop, and space for family gatherings and special events. A unique feature: heated sidewalks and an overhang outside the building for those not yet ready to make their way indoors.

Residents will have access to a range of social services including substance abuse rehabilitation, mental health assistance, and job training and computer classes. When they are ready, residents will transition to permanent housing while still receiving any support they need from PFC and its partners.

“Fr. Tim and the Pope Francis Center have done a great job working to create a better future for our most vulnerable residents,” said Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. “The Bridge Housing Campus will be another example of how Detroit and its partners are creating pathways from homelessness to affordable housing.”

Michigan House Speaker Joe Tate, a Detroit native who represents the 10th House District, said PFC’s comprehensive approach will set residents up for future success. “Having the full suite of wraparound services is a critical piece to making sure people have the ability to be housed,” he said.

Financial support for the Bridge Housing Campus comes from a variety of sources, with the majority being contributed by private foundations and corporations. The Julia Burke Foundation in Northern California contributed $13 million, the single largest donation. Other major funders include:

  • J. Addison and Marion M. Bartush Family Foundation
  • City of Detroit
  • Ford Motor Company
  • Lear Corporation
  • Magna Corporation
  • Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus
  • Piston Group
  • The Pulte Family Charitable Foundation
  • State of Michigan

The Bridge Housing Campus is located at 2915 West Hancock Street, Detroit. PFC staff are working to determine the first group of residents. Plans are for them to move in late June, although that may change if the selection process takes longer.

The Bridge Housing Campus will also double as PFC’s new headquarters. PFC will continue to operate the day center and shelter where it started in 1990 and now serves more than 200 guests a day. The center is located at 438 Saint Antoine Street, Detroit, next to Sts. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church.

Background:

Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, the Pope Francis Center provides vital services to the city’s homeless. On an average day, we welcome nearly 200 guests and provide them with nutritious meals, showers, laundry and access to doctors, dentists, lawyers, housing providers, and job training through our free clinics. We have been serving Detroit’s most vulnerable citizens since 1990, and we are committed to eradicating chronic homelessness in our city. @michigan @christianity

This is a crucial moment for boxing. The uncertainty that still surrounds the Olympic Movement and the question of whether or not boxing will be excluded from the programme of the Games must be clarified.

This is crazy, I'm surprised I had not heard of this uncertainty before. @sports @sports

But the park is named for Major Richard Bong, and he was a WWII war hero, with 40 confirmed Jap kills.

The new legislation further simplifies mobilization procedures and introduces new penalties for draft dodgers.

President Vladimir Zelensky signed his country’s long-debated military mobilization bill into law on Tuesday, a legislation card publicly available on the Ukrainian parliament’s website indicates.

The mobilization bill was passed by the Verkhovna Rada earlier this month, following a drawn-out controversy over its contents. In a last-minute turn of events, the bill’s provisions became even stricter than they originally were, losing a demobilization clause.

The adopted legislation effectively means that all draftees are set to remain in the military indefinitely, with the change reportedly lobbied by Aleksandr Syrsky, the recently appointed commander-in-chief of the armed forces. A demobilization procedure is expected to be introduced in separate legislation, though it remains unclear when exactly such a bill could materialize.

The new law further simplifies draft procedures, with all Ukrainians obliged to “update data” on themselves with the military authorities within 60 days after the legislation comes into force. The provision applies to Ukrainians living abroad as well.

Apart from that, all the eligible individuals aged 18 to 60 now must always carry their military ID on them. Moreover, a conscription notice is now considered to be delivered to a draftee even should conscription officers fail to meet them in person at their residence and actually hand them their notice.

The legislation also introduces new penalties for breaches, including fines and suspension of a driver’s permit. The police can also forcibly deliver a suspected draft dodger to an enlistment office should a draftee fail to show up on being deemed to have received their conscription notice.

Critics of the legislation have been arguing it will only drive a wedge between the Ukrainian authorities and ordinary people. It has also reportedly received a poor reception within the military itself, given the lack of any demobilization mechanisms. The reception was apparently also influenced by the fact that the bill’s introduction was justified largely by the purported need to relieve war-weary soldiers from their military service.

Kyiv has maintained its mobilization drive since the early days of the conflict with Russia, which broke out in late February 2022. The mobilization effort grew increasingly chaotic and lawless over time, with numerous videos circulating online showing Ukrainian enlistment officers chasing potential soldiers in the streets, violently detaining them, beating them up, and so on. Senior Ukrainian officials, however, have routinely dismissed concerns over mounting violations as Russian propaganda.

"To churn out the robocalls, Wohl and Jacobs sought a Black voice actress to make the recording, which they called their “Black robo.” The call falsely claimed that personal information used on mail-in ballots could lead to arrests for outstanding arrest warrants or be used to collect unpaid credit card debts. The calls also falsely warned that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention could use the information to track people for mandatory vaccines. "

@Pixelle3D yep. When Netflix was basically the only game in town they beat out pirating as the market has shown they are willing to pay for convenience. But with the saturation in the market making the convenience not convenience...que return of the pirates.
