Hope you've had a lovely start of the year so far.

It should come as no surprise that the next issue of my newsletter/blog #TheFutureIsFederated will focus on #selfhosting and #GoToSocial. LOVING it so far.

I’d like to propose a vote for the February issue, since I like to start my explorations early, to thoroughly test-drive #Fediverse projects.

So, in February, what would you like me to cover?

@solrize someone here told me about the concept of Eternal September (I think it was @nimi) and I was so fascinated by it, I ended down a Usenet rabbit hole… which prompted me to get a Raspberry Pi 5, install Ubuntu on it and begin to learn Linux πŸ€—

@stefan@stefanbohacek.online Thanks Stefan! I tried multiple times with my Mastodon and Sharkey account (calckey.world) – they both produced the error message.

Let me try with Pixelfed now... and if that fails, Friendica πŸ˜…

It makes me feel so happy to log onto my #Wordpress site and see this new #ActivityPub menu item about the number of followers of my blog from the #Fediverse. And comments awaiting moderation, which are usually Fediverse replies to my federated blog post. It's just so cool!!! (Yes, I will probably keep gushing about this for another month or so, please bear with me) πŸ€—

Hello Fedi Friends!

Please do not think that my interest in the #Fediverse has waned because I haven’t published a new piece for #TheFutureIsFederated in 2 weeks.

I’ve been writing an EPIC post about the values of the Fediverse - a love letter to it, really - that has ballooned to 12 min reading time (and I only covered 2/3 of the points I wanted to make).

I’ll split the post in 2 parts… and may publish something this afternoon. Thank you for everything, I think you may enjoy this new piece ❀️

Something that I LOVE about the #Fediverse is the encouragement to use #AltText in pics... for accessibility / people with visual impairements / ppl using screenreaders.

I see you can add #Alttext to images posted on #Threads but where do you read those descriptions?

Or is nobody using it on Threads?

If you have an example, please LMK. Thanks! πŸ™

Oh what a wild ride these past 3 months have been.

As I deepen my explorations of the #Fediverse and #foss projects I feel like I've become a new person.

As outlined in this post from last week, in early June I "only" had a Mastodon account: https://blog.elenarossini.com/fediverse-summer-3-lessons/

Fast-forward to mid-September and I now have 9 Fediverse accounts, I'm exploring Matrix and its bridges, I'm watching videos from #Fosdem and I say things like "Misskey is my Everest" (because most of its servers are in Japanese)

LOVING the #Element app - it looks really modern and elegant. And it's very intuitive and easy to use.
