God damnit I hate it. There is so much research and so many model case studies of cities with public transportation they could draw influence from. The current double decker I-35 design is one of the worst I've ever experienced, but it's because it was designed in the 60s so I can't fault the engineers much. If there were 30% less traffic a lot of the issues would be fixed with infra upgrades imo

The city passed Project Connect, a light rail and public transportation project. It's estimated to be $7.1 billion but was scaled down because of "increased building costs" and this I-35 expansion project is $7.7 billion. If you look at the map for Project Connect, it's a little underserved especially in the higher density parts of the city. At least they didn't run one in westlake lol

Imagine what they could have done with this with $15 billion

It almost makes me wish I lived there 15 years from now, but luckily the fascists will take over by then and funnel all the public money to the oligarchs so we don't have to worry about it :)

However, the former IT manager, Jonathan Katz, abused his managerial position and highly privileged account at a mobile telecommunications store to overcome security measures and perform unauthorized number ports.

As someone who worked in mobile phone sales: there are tons of people making 30k/yr that have the same "highly privileged account" this guy did. He seems to be on the IT side which would make it easier to track. Retail employees do this all the time and usually for less money. People come in with a fake ID and someone's social and they walk out with a new phone activated with their phone number. An example is being made out of him, but I guarantee this issue is more systemic

If someone is willing to potentially trade their employment for $5k, the pay is probably low and the turnover is high. Aiding in identity theft is wrong, but five years in prison seems overkill

Have a friend affected by this incident directly. Pretty fucked situation all around. Colorado is the only state without licensing requirements for funeral homes or crematoriums. Looks like their "department of regulatory agencies" conducted a review and their recommendations will be discussed in the next state general assembly

As a disclaimer, I'm someone relatively new to usenet

Usenet has provided a much more consistent option for media quality for my server. Most titles in the last 20-25 years have around ten distributions ranging from 720p to 4k. The biggest difference are downloads. It's no contest: better bandwidth with much much more consistent speeds. You won't stumble on something with one seeder on a 300kbps connection. There's no requirement to seed content back, although I recognize that if you're using private torrent trackers this is likely the case for you already

Overall I enjoy how much better usenet is to gather media from when it comes to the amount of time from request -> server availability

Truthfully I enjoy hexbear's federation. The constant drama on the multifront ideological war against "liberals" keeps shit pretty interesting

The entire point of the fediverse is to pick and choose what you want to see, so leaving it up to the user to block an instance is a better solution. The only exceptions should be illegal content and if the instance is explicitly devoted to specific subjects or ethics (lemmygrad, beehaw). Plus, I think subjugating communities increases polarity overall

We're living the infancy of the platform. Once there's better content/comment moderation this won't be as much of a problem and people will complain less
