Haha thanks! I've been lurking a fair amount. Just a little more distracted currently.

"Dear Republicans. When I voted to have people's rights stripped away and their lives ruined, I didn't think it included me!"

Eat shit, asshole.

Having not been using this place as regularly for the last couple of weeks, it definitely looks like there's more upvotes on posts now in general compared to when I started up here about two months ago. Even just before this latest Reddit fuck up, it looks a lot to me like there's been a steady influx lately. Like suddenly noticing that the grass has got longer.

I used to think a future with cyborgs would be pretty cool but personally, I'm not so hot on the idea anymore. The problem is that you would be beholden to whichever corporation or government manufactures and pays for parts. And who is to say that the support for whichever product that you've surgically implanted will be for life, and that you won't end up with useless landfill electronics sewed up inside of you.

Personally I think that if AI was ever made with altruistic purposes, that could fill the role of things like complex calculations and extra memory or a log. And good Augmented Reality could fill the role of interacting directly with entertainment and blocking out the outside world. And maybe one day there would be effective ways of interacting directly with computers through electrodes or even wirelessly. Although who knows how our privacy would be invaded then. There could be literal thought police in that case.

The problem is that the tech will always come from someone else. Imagine integrating this kind of tech into your life on such a deep level and then the person in charge of over seeing and maintaining this tech turns out to be an authoritarian nazi.

Yeah, to be honest in my online travels these last couple of years, I've even seen prejudiced talk regarding sexual attraction coming from people under the non-binary umbrella. Something that I thought I understood early on is that gender identity and sexual attraction are not the same thing and it can be disheartening and doubt inspiring when people in the circles that you are learning from link the two together.

I'm still trying to decide if this really describes the point I've reached. Because I hate people but I can learn to like or love individual persons. And as far as 'people' go, I might skew a little misandrist as well because I generally have even less trust for men than women (which is wrong, I know, but so is the current state of affairs in the 'manosphere'). But really, underneath all of that is the broken hearted idealist child that I once was.

Yeah it's nice to be able to import your list of subscriptions at least. But for comment history, I guess it depends what you're getting out of a place like this. On Reddit, I liked going back sometimes and seeing what I was posting a couple of years ago. Especially if it's personal shit, or even old review posts for movies or whatever. I like having a stable online presence or identity with a history to refer to.

[Removed by Reddit]

Been a minute since I've seen that. And that's actually one huge advantage of the Fediverse. There can't be a [Removed by Lemmy] because 'Lemmy' is a federation of servers with their own rules and regulations and aren't even all based in the USA. And if any server starts these shenanigans, you can just move to another.

Although I do wish that profiles and comment history could be preserved from one server to another. That's basically the last piece of the puzzle that would give the user a completely a completely free experience.

so many users continue to shill for such decisions

I think that something that a lot of people need to be reminded of here, especially ex Reddit moderators, is that the users have NEVER particularly been fans of the moderators. In fact the moderators on Reddit helped the admins bring Reddit to the point where it is now in the first place. Setting up automoderator to catch buzzwords out of context and make people's comments disappear without notice or a trace is just as fucking dodgy as the admins flagging the word "Luigi".

So no, it's not a surprise that moderators getting into trouble for not falling in line with the admins doesn't cause a mass exodus. Because most people don't give a fuck about the moderators and would be glad to see them gone. With the way they have been abusing automoderator over the years, it wouldn't make much of a difference if they were replaced by an automated system anyway.

So if you want people to come to Lemmy, stop acting like they give a shit about the moderator that treats them like dirt. Because that'll probably have the opposite effect. I know that it did on me when all the mods were crying about the API and their modding tools. Start offering more reasons for why USERS should come here.

  • Poison Ivy has been kinda annoying me these last two episodes. But I guess your child dying is as good a time as any to act a bit out of character and do stupid shit.

  • Honestly glad that Harley's father got killed. What a piece of shit. To him I say 👍.

  • Starting to get the feeling that while all of this is going on, Lois is off somewhere trying to make contact with Superman. And that they're gonna arrive in the 11th hour to turn the tides.

Just fyi, you would probably be better off posting stuff about Reddit in !reddit@lemmy.world if you want to keep what is left of your patience and sanity. On these smaller indie platforms, there tend to be a lot of people around who make the fact that they use these platforms a part of their personality, so they take personal offense if anyone mentions one of the evil platforms for any reason.

Do people think that the more specific labels and variations are the reason for the hate? Because as someone who only actually started looking up terminology and familiarising myself with the people late in life, and has walked amongst closed minded conservative people, they don't know or care about anything outside of 'gay' or 'trans'. Even non-binary is an alien concept to most.

It doesn't matter what the label is or what the colours are, people who hate anything out of the norm are going to hate anything out of the norm regardless. Especially when they've been raised in a religion that teaches them from childhood that anyone out of the norm is going to burn and suffer for eternity. They don't do research so that they know what they're talking about and they don't bother to ever actually get to know any of the people they claim to hate. They just like to hate.

If they weren't going after trans people right now, they would be going after gay people. And you can bet that's next anyway. Have people already forgotten how gay people were treated before trans people were the target?
