For those of you who have been using Proton Mail for a year or longer, how reliable have you found it? Have you encountered any instances where websites didn't accept or didn't deliver to you Proton email address? Have you ever had trouble accessing Proton Mail while travelling?

I'm looking to try some of the Proton services soon, so I'd appreciate some honest experience from real users. Thanks!

That's it! If you don't specify a host path, i.e. the path before the colon, Docker will create an volume which saves any changes you make to that path in the container, but won't mount any existing path from the host to the container.

No users to answer questions? No problem…

CarPlay and Android Auto actually work well, and you can use the apps that you already have on your phone. The screens are generally more convenient and restrict view less than a phone holder stuck to the window. But without those, I agree that I'd rather have no screen than one with crappy media controls and the car's own navigation.

What did they do?

On my Android phone, switching away from Liftoff to another app usually causes it to unload. So, when I switch back, it loses the scrolling position I had left, which means I have to start again at the top. Other apps on my phone don't do this, and apps used before Liftoff don't get unloaded, so I don't think this is a memory usage issue.

Has anyone else noticed the same?

Yes, I think that's it. Their website really don't make it easy to figure out...

You can’t change icons from the system/launcher settings. Individual apps can offer icon options, but they are internal to the app.

It is more efficient to buy cheap supermarket sponges and replace them more often, or do you find that more expensive options are worth the additional cost?

When you put apps in deep sleep on a Samsung device, they're disabled unless you interact with them. This also removes them from the Play Store updates page, so they don't get updated.

Is there a way to keep installing updates for apps in deep sleep without manually going through each one?

Not surprising. The quality of their articles is usually mediocre at best. I occasionally look at their RSS feed and most of what I see is “How do I achieve ”–style posts.

Unfortunately, the only way I could find to do this in Liftoff! is by going to Settings > Accounts and deleting each local account by long pressing on it, and then create it again.

Thanks! This is what I did and it worked fine.

Yes, you can connect the device behind CGNAT to your existing VPN as a client. Then, from inside the VPN, you would use the its virtual address to connect to it. You can use a systemd service or similar to have the VPN connect at boot.

Would it be possible to have an option to speed up (but not completely disable) animations? On my Android phone, Thunder animations are much slower than everything else in the system, so even just respecting the system setting would be great. Thanks!

There are a few default instances in the settings page, and you can add your own as well.

Several years ago, I used Blockada, which was frequently recommended. According to some discussion threads, it seems to have fallen from grace.

What ad blocker that doesn't require root do you use? What's your experience with it? Would you recommend it?

I look forward to trying Boost, even though I only used it for Reddit briefly, several years ago! On desktop, I like the Lemmy web UI just as well as Old Reddit.

Hi,

I want to buy an NVMe disk for storage and games. I want a TLC drive for reliability, but maximum sequential read performance is not important. I only have PCIe Gen 3 with no plans to upgrade in the near future.

Can you comment on whether I should look at a Samsung 970 Plus, a Crucial P5, or something else?

Edit: I would want something with a DRAM cache if possible.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I think it would be great to start a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly bean review and recommendation thread. Back in the days of the lockdowns, I found lots of great roasters on /r/Coffee and /r/Espresso, and I think it's generally interesting to see what others are using.

So, tell us about coffees that you've had recently, where they're grown and who they're roasted by, how you're preparing them, and anything else you'd like to share!

If you comment, please also let me know your thoughts on having this as a recurring discussion and how often you'd like to see it.

Cheers!

I liked the Saturday APPreciation threads on /r/Android and found them really useful for discovering new apps. How about we get something similar rolling here?

I use private browsing a lot for the automatic site data clearing. Several browsers restrict taking screenshots in private windows, which is only an inconvenience to me. I hope more browsers will allow the user to decide if screenshots are allowed on their own device.
