I've had so much bad luck trying to track down different programmes I grew up with, I think my parents sourced a lot of cheap/free disks and later CDs which seem to have left no trace on the internet, but I'm going to have to give this a look now.. 😂
E: ok, I've tried a bunch of different searches and scrolled endless images to see if anything looked familiar, but no luck so far. I'll probably come back to this and try again periodically like I do with the other lost programmes..
Not exactly a game, but the image you used triggered a fuzzy memory of a pre-photoshop programme I had when I was a kid where you could swirl and smudge and otherwise manipulate an image (pretty sure you couldn't even upload your own. E: on second thought it might have been an option that I just hadn't figured out lol, either way I remember generally using the default image) in some very basic ways.
No way I could recall enough detail to find it again, but I remember it was pretty fun, for like an hour, at absolute most lol

Yeah, unfortunately I've been down it before, and the more you look, the worse it gets (I could have included so many more countries and atrocities, but it was too depressing to keep reading through these statistics)..
And you're exactly right, it's a reflection of just how much shit gets swept under the rug either by the establishment and its authorities because it reflects badly on them (and tor they don't want to stop doing whatever horrible thing it is they've been getting away with), or by bigots in society who are either happy to remain ignorant, or worse, actively deny anything is happening because the existing structure gives them some level of comfort and privilege (which is of course one of the many ways those in power keep us divided to maintain said power).
The saying goes "those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it", which is precisely why we aren't taught it properly (and some of it gets deliberately omitted or even erased).
Mentally ill people are significantly more likely to be the victims of violence and abuse than the perpetrators of it, and it isn't mental illness that causes bigotry nor the exploitation and destruction of others for profit, it's privilege, entitlement, unimaginable wealth, and an entire systemic framework of capitalism, white supremacy and so on.
Stop scapegoating mental illness and furthering the stigma against an already marginalised group of people (or since you don't seem to care about that - giving dictators an out from accountability for their actions) because that's easier for you than to critically think about the well established structures and systems that allow and even encourage exploiting and harming others.
