I agree with you on the CLI part. I tried Jellyfin once and it's basically the same as browsing directories with movies in a file manager, for which you don't need the whole heavyweight software stack.

I know Jellyfin also has transcoding and probably some even more exotic stuff, but even my phone can play full HD from SMB without transcoding, so I have no use case for these extra features.

Aren't they just too old / overgrown?

Woah. I had a server with them until like 2022 or 2023 and they didn't do strange things like this

Slow Horses S05 dropped and I just watched the first episode, still quite a nice show.

I started Heweliusz too but it's too intense for me. A very good show, just not when you want to unwind.

In industrial settings you often need to collect data from lots of low bandwidth devices. 36 usb-to-serial adapters or something.

I can imagine a lot of other stuff too, like some kind of interactive display in a museum or art exhibition, with lots of IO and little computation. Anything that outgrows a Raspberry Pi.

Any example of one that requires it (so I know what not to use)?

Never ever have I felt any urge to touch someone I'm not sexually attracted to, not when drunk, not when high. I'd feel very uncomfortable in a group like this. Hated hugs since I was a kid.

It freezes well, too. And you don't need to bake anything later, just make a cannabutter sandwich.

Really? I had to go back to March 2024 to find it
