You're right in that running HA just for a WoL timer would be silly, but (presumably) it's already running for other, less silly purposes.

I'd say the main benefit is when the machine requires regular (as in daily) reboots, or if it's something you don't trust is fully private and want to be powered off outside work hours. Not useful for me, but I can see why it would be handy.

Rode up a steep hill and found a decent bit of weather this morning. And a rainbow down the other side, too.

FedEx have their own drivers in Auckland?

I can confirm that they have at least one.

To be fair though, our supplier invests a fairly large chunk of money in freight, and in the past ran their own dedicated flights when the previous carrier (maybe TNT? Can't remember) wasn't reliable enough. I have no idea if FedEx is that good in general or if it's only for these sort of high-priority customers.

I remember seeing someone combine the two and had Home Assistant pull the photograph from USPS and attaches it to the notification when the mailbox sensor is triggered.

Well done! I like to think of myself as an excellent solderer, but every time I try to solder the stupid enamel wires they use in (cheap) headphones it ends up some kind of hideous mess. Next time, I'll have to make new cables from scratch just so I don't have to deal with it.

I sell them for a living, and there's almost no consensus on what they're called. There are a few terms that are popular overseas that we seem to avoid for some reason (I don't think I've heard whipper snipper or string trimmer for example), but everything else is fair game.

That isn't even a terrible idea - with that many conductors, you should be able to carry tens of amps. Use two for "Data" (detecting charger) and you've got... 21 positive and 21 negative. I'd not be surprised to see that hit 100W without catching fire.

Are they offering complimentary doctors visits if you register as being too warm?

Nah, the other kind of infrared sensor (i.e. just using movement to detect if you're there).

They could be part of a totally innocent turn-the-lights-off-when-nobody-is-working system that doesn't track individual users or log data. They could also be part of a log-how-much-time-you-spend-on-the-toilet system.

Anyone with some experience with something like this?

I had a leak in January that perfectly lined up with an actual reading. The estimated bill afterward was so high that the next actual reading was a few hundred dollars into the negative. I'd paid it because I wasn't sure if their leak allowance would cover it, but it did so we haven't had to pay again since, which is nice I guess.

Pretty sure we'll be back up to zero dollars this month.

Do you think your company would give you 5 weeks off ?

I just asked for an extra week of annual leave instead of a tiny annual payrise back in the early days of COVID and they didn't even bat an eye.

Assuming you have the ability to unpaid leave once your four weeks are used up, five weeks is the equivalent of a ~1.9% pay rise. It's a trivial cost in and of itself, though that is ignoring those jobs which are difficult to find cover for and might need hiring a temp or similar overheads.

That's a huge part of why we have 8 hour days/40 hour weeks/paid break times/etc. It's less about workers' rights, and more about folks being more productive when not overworked.

Alternatively, pair up with other job seekers to be each other's references.
