I feel like logging in with Facebook and Google on sites is just as much about them gaining access to scrape more info about you as it is for your "convenience." While there could be value with Lemmy, it's not nearly what it is with Facebook and Google. So I would say not likely.

I'm digging it so far. My only things of initial note are the account switch button and logout button are pretty close together and, while I appreciate an option to enlarge content text, I think there needs to be an option to enlarge UI text. Some of the stuff, like the subscription list in the drawer, is tiny for my old eyes (and fat fingers). Oh, and maybe a way to tell you've up/downvoted something at a glance other than the vote number changing. I've added the app on Obtainium to continue following along. 😊

What'd you end up on, out of curiosity? I was on Fedora for a couple years, but with the whole Red Hat thing (that I don't fully understand the implications of), I switched to openSUSE Tumbleweed. Still have love for Mint, though, after all these years.

People have been saying "the year of the Linux desktop" for 20 years now. I definitely think it's closer than ever now that gaming (aside from some anticheat stuff) is mostly there thanks to Valve putting in the work, for sure. Once Win 10 hits EOL, this being the last Windows holdout I have, it'll get Linux like the rest of them.

I'm amazed Spice is still around. I don't know why; I guess I just hadn't seen it or heard or thought about it in years.

Meta is killing off Messenger Lite soon. I don't know that they're embracing the Lite route as much anymore.

I just wish it had a precipitation radar. I'm pretty sure the data is available because I've seen another FOSS app that had it, but I can't remember which now.

I wish I could find the post/comment from a small instance admin that said it quickly became a nightmare trying to moderate without a team, and people were filling their drive storage with white noise files and crap, needing to be purged twice. I believe they even mentioned they were shutting down the instance and it being a cautionary tale of why not to join a smaller instance.

I was going to say I slightly disagree, but then I thought about it some more and realized they probably just see it as SteamOS in the same way Android doesn't make people think about Linux either.

Started on kbin.social and beehaw.org. Realized I liked Lemmy just a little more early on and stuck with Beehaw. But then they started to defederate from larger instances with open signups. So I joined lemmy.world to be part of the bigger picture. Then it got too big and people want to play the DDoS game, so now I've got this alt on lemm.ee as well. We'll see where it goes from here. 😂

I don't have a good ad blocker for you other than AdAway. It won't block YouTube ads on an unrooted phone, but it can on a rooted one. You can try in-browser mobile YouTube with Firefox + uBlock, but I would suggest switching away from the native YouTube app and getting NewPipe with SponsorBlock from F-Droid.
