I got multiple CueCats from RadioShack for free. You can modify them to output without encryption or use python code to output to usable output. I have a couple ones that have been converted and have USB plug too.

It figures honestly. Since removal of don't be evil, google is trying to go more evil every day
They use to be. I've grown up with light switches with a neon element inside them and also been in places that have florescent switches. When I turned 18, I stopped seeing anything of the sort. Though you can get glow in dark outlet panels. That's about as good. I've seen people put glow in dark stickers on the panels too.
Currently using but not from fdroid. I am sticking to getting mine from obtanium.
