I got addicted to converting USGS and European digital elevation data to 3d topo map prints; I just think they're neat!

My daughter just showed me a picture that had the words "Jay AF" written on it. I know what "AF" means, but what's the "Jay" mean? She went to a cirque du solil show and wrote it on a pic of some shirtless guys twirling around.

Any help from someone more hip than myself?

Calories In Calories Out. It's a diet strategy where you eat less calories than you use and therefore lose weight.

I have worked in building maintenance and repair. One thing that is extremely hazardous to a concrete building is too much water. I have seen many concrete planters that crack and result in water leaks for lower levels. Standing water in concrete structures is a huge no no. I do not have a lot of experience in engineering on this matter, but whenever I see a solar punk sky scraper with vegetation on its exterior, I think "cool, but maintenance and inspection must be horrible! Repairs must cost a fortune when those roots and moisture degree the concrete."

What engineering controls does one need to create a durable structure while exposed to constant moisture needed for vegetation, and the vegetation itself? I know there are green sky scrapers with gardens all over. What is the maintenance of those structures? Do they hold up\last as long as bare concrete structures?

I'm annoyed at the large plot hole in beyond the sea; why wouldn't you send the replicas to space instead of the humans. I have heard the argument "what if something goes wrong and the link is lost?" But the benefits of sending replicas is WAY larger than possibly losing the link. First and foremost, you wouldn't need any life support and could build an extremely robust spaceship without life support.

But I'm not here because the episode directly annoyed me, however, I'm annoyed that this episode is consistently ranked as either the best or second best of the season. How? It's not thought provoking or unique. I assumed the Ross character was going to snap and kill someone as soon as his family was killed. I suppose I didn't know who he was going to kill until the final scene, however it wasn't very suspenseful and the story telling to get to the end was incredibly slow and boring.

Does anyone agree? Anyone disagree? Why do you think the episode is great if you don't agree?

I thought "chat" with a hard "t" in French meant "piss", cat is pronounced "cha". I was told this by a French speaker when I was talking about a "chat noir" poster, using a hard "t" and they said "you're sayong black piss! The "t" is silent for cat".

Can anyone confirm? I feel this is important for this post, "chat gpt" could mean "piss, I farted"

Here's the farmer's website that used to supply the peppers to Sriracha; they sell their own sauce now:

Does anyone have any experiences with these services like gollum Network? Is it safe? Does it earn you a net monetary gain compared to your electric bill? I have a pretty nice desktop that sits around for most of the day, just wondering what else I can do with it while I'm at work.

Please note, I'm asking specifically for people who have actually done this and what their experiences were, good and bad. I understand I'm not going to make tons of (or possibly any) money or start a business.

Yes my Gboard swipe is definitely worse than before. It won't remember custom words anymore, sometimes decides to not recognize my swipe and just adds the first letter, and gives wrong suggestions more and more, even when I know my swipe pattern is correct.

Swipe was by far the best. Why did they discontinue development? To much competition?

Even though organized religions suck and deserve the hate, this is why I'm atheist.

I'm not sure she's correct about milk melting faster than cream or that the "deflates" if you whip too much air into it.

One of the three main differences between the ice cream and gelato is air content. ice cream has more air and doesn't loose it over night; it would be bubbly too with all the air escaping. Gelato melts quicker because it is served 10 to 15 degrees F warmer than ice cream (this main differences).

Low air content and warmer temp is why gelato is smoother.

Source: My Italian wife and I have had long discussions and Internet searches on the finer points of this topic. I'm not an expert, I could be wrong.

Book 7 was a bit of a drag for me, more so than book 6. Books 8 and 9 are really fast paced and good. It's all proto molecule stuff. I remember not caring about the free navy and just wanting to get on with the larger series plot during 6 and 7. You may have to trudge through those to get to the good stuff though.

Trouble viewing? (lemmy.world)

I'm only seeing one out of every five images posted. The screen shot is the main page with thumb nails, but even when I go into the post it's blank. Anyone else having this issue?

Liftoff or Lemmy rotated the photo 90 degrees counter clockwise during the upload. Huh.
