The cyanide pill.

I played this when it came out because some people were hyping it up. It's solid and a fun game, but I didn't feel it brought anything whatsoever to the table that other shooters hadn't brought 15 years ago. It isn't even the first free game to provide a similar experience. Not surprised it isn't a huge hit.

I'm not sure I agree with "tolerating" keyboard. I quite like it over a joystick! The benefit in complex games (like RTS, as you mention) is obvious, but even in most 3D games I prefer the instant reaction and definite axis of WASD over the 360° analog inputs of a joystick. There are not many times I would rather move at 2° forwards-right at a ramping X% speed instead of simply moving forwards at 100% instantly. As for racing or other games that require precise analog inputs, I would generally prefer something that is bigger than my thumb i.e a racing wheel.

That isn't to say I completely disagree, though! The ergonomics are a clear disadvantage. Most keyboards are not ergonomic for typing, let alone gaming. It would be fantastic to see more gaming-specialised keypad devices other than that one Razor one and whatever Chinese Amazon specials are kicking around. But the keypad format is not something I would want to forego as any FPS I play for more than 20 hours I usually have the entire left half of the keyboard bound to something for quick access.

I upvoted you because this is a great discussion point. :)

Can you not? I've played various third person combat games (are they all part of "hack n slash"?) with a mouse just fine. I do prefer controller, but there's nothing wrong with using a kb/mouse in most of those games. Is Dark Souls control scheme really that bad?

[-] IronKrill@lemmy.ca 2 points 13 hours ago

Per their original comment, they aren't saying mouse is bad. Their problem is with the keyboard.

… we merely tolerate keyboard as a gaming input device because of the precision that mouse provides

Why are you bringing up the mouse again?

I'll chime in since I'm in Canada, which is sadly just US delayed by 20 years.

I can walk to a convenience store with high prices in about 5 minutes or 360 metres and little else. It's all residential beyond there until a 25 minute walk or greater and everything is spread out. The main shopping centres you might want to walk around are an hour walk away. To reach the store I actually shop at for reasonable prices, it's a 12 minute drive or a 7400 metre walk (a miserable one with spotty sidewalks)... just for fun, it's about 45m by bus BEST CASE but realistically you will take an hour unless you hit the exact right bus at the exact moment it pulls up.

Description from original poster:

Happened a year ago so we’re almost finished with construction.

My car was parked on the right side on the break in the concrete. He was going 45-50 mph and pushed it over 5-10ft of concrete, through a windstorm certified garage door, and into a filled garage.

If my car hadn’t been there he would’ve driven right into one of the front bedrooms.

Had the pictures pop up in my memories and decided to share the crazy experience!

I use the location tracking of Google Maps/Google Timeline constantly for work, and it's exceedingly helpful to know when I was at certain cities, buildings, etcetera. Of course, this means I'm basically signing my soul away to Google. But I can't really find any alternative location tracking apps, even though I would have thought there would be lots available. Are there any good alternatives out there?

The closest I found was Owntracks, but it doesn't work for me for a couple of reasons. Primarily, it doesn't tell me the places I've been, only the latitude/longitude. That isn't helpful. I want to know I was at X or Y convenience store and when my last visit was. Secondly of course, the interface was extremely lacking and I didn't like that it was split across two websites and an app. Why even have a map in the Android app if it doesn't show my location data??

Title, basically. I know I have issues, but I couldn't say if it's depression, ADD, or just general problems. Is the only reason to have a diagnosis so you know what to work on, or are there other benefits such as easier access to therapy?

My question is meant specifically for Canada, but feel free to chip in from other countries. :)

According to the home owner:

We live on a 90* corner intersection with a major street and this guy flew around it at probably 40-50mph. Hit my neighbors car so hard it ended up in their yard facing the other way. Both cars totaled, driver ran off on foot. 11 AM on a Sunday morning.

And the aftermath:

I'll be that guy and say this isn't crappy design and shouldn't be in this community. We've already got posts filling top of all we don't need more where they don't belong.

I don't think this happens much in real life, I would assume most people use contacts. Though it is a commonly used format for fake text messages meant as memes.

I have used Windows for a decade now and keep using it because my workflows and the application support are there. But as someone that uses Linux on my server, has tried out Linux desktops, and uses WSL, I can confidently say that I am gone if they start charging me a subscription. It will be annoying as hell but just like leaving Reddit I am willing to give up some niceties to keep my money and my morals.

This response would have been... fine, if not for Madison's accusations. Now we wait to see if they make a part 2 I guess.

This isn't meant to be a criticism of your post, but as someone who fades in and out of this situation I want to say: "go outside" is not overly helpful advice for people in this situation. I've tried going outside but without a goal to fulfill or any idea of how "normal people" have fun, it's a struggle to make it feel any less empty than being at home. Obviously it's not your job to write a book-length guide on how to live a fulfilling life though, so carry on.
