they're not doing it to get you to turn it back on, but your mom who you turned it off for. drives me mad how often I have to redisable privacy nightmares everytime my mom asks me to help her with her phone.

VPN + DeGoogled Privacy Android ROM would be the most practical. That way you should br free from most if not all cross device tracking.

In general having a seperate device for that stuff makes total sense.

Get some sort of device that is compatible with CalyxOS or GrapheneOS, like an older Pixel

not sure what would be best to handle verification.

You also have to be careful to use totally new accounts for everything on this new device, different number, different email, different device, different sim etc

the only thing that can really stop it IMO is mainstreaming decentralized social media and messaging services.

You'd need to effectively replace Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Whatsapp etc.. The only thing that totally keeps us from 1984 is that all these platforms for now have decided to be relatively free and impartial (compared to how bad it could be). But that could change at any time if the powers that be decide to on a whim. They could completely ban all privacy, pacificsm or any kind of political opposition tomorrow.

I mean no glass on the oven door is a little bit inconvenient and there is no visible range hood (you can have them built into the range itself), othewise there is nothing wrong with it. cleaning a gas stove is more work, but some people swear by gas. the painting can be a glass print if you really want it. I don't understand why this qualifies as a meme

You can tell Ross is sick of being the de facto leader. Understandable really, amazing that he even stepped up in the first place.

That's pretty cool, it never made sense to have all these cloud services for what is really a local task

Here is the same mushroom from my last post but 3 days later and photographed from the other side.

I feels like a rock with a rubbery coating.

It seems to be growing what looks like roots?

It doesn't seem like it's dying off, rather it seems to be growing stronger.

It's growing under a pear tree, maybe it's feeding off of dead roots?

I'm thinking maybe a ganoderma?

Here is a closeup and one from the same angle as my last post:

Edit: Here it is 3 days ago:

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

I thought it was a moldy pear (it's under a pear and apple tree, next to some sage and valerian), but it's hardish and attached to the ground.

Absolutely one of the best openings ever

Infinity had a multireddit feature that let you create your own multireddits. I think it was client side, because I can use it without an account? Will this feature ever come back?

I know there are no multicommunities on Lemmy yet, but it would be cool if we could do it client-side.

Any time I try to apply filters from the home screen, it only filters Subscribed. Is there a way to filter on All or Local? I tried switching the tab order, but that didn't work.

Thanks for the port btw.
