Yeah, so like.. those are mostly pretty big problems for me -and likely a whole lot of people who might want to get off Plex- that I don’t have a clue what to do with without dedicating probably weeks of time to learning properly, so.. hard pass until the whole process is significantly safer or more streamlined.

This whole thing feels like this :p

I don’t recall saying all attackers were necessarily from different countries, because that’s not true at all. I said it’s unlikely they are from the same one, because statistically that is true.

If you do that, great! Genuinely good for you. You probably know the risks and how to mitigate them, or fix them if they become problems. Or don’t care, that’s a valid option too.

I absolutely do not know the risks or how to mitigate them. I don’t want to fuck myself over doing something stupid against the consensus advice of basically everyone who ever talks about it. I don’t even fully understand how to make it accessible in the first place, despite having spent a few days looking into it on and off (same issue with sharing my calibre library, as it seems to be the same process). It’s way beyond my experience level, it’s intimidating, and frankly I’m not super interested in doing something that far out of my understanding comfort zone if it has any significant risks.

Even if they did track them down, then what?

The world is huge, it’s unlikely that a particular attacker is going to be from the same country, so how are they going to do anything about it, really?

The victim can report to the government local to the hackers, but that local government is under no real obligation to do anything about it.

Same in the regions of the US I’ve been to. Usually little cocktail weenies in pastry here, bacon wrapped is just called bacon wrapped, though.

A science book and a plant.

This research sounds like a strong contender for an Ignobel Prize

(That site is past winners, very fun to read periodically)

If it makes you feel better, the people who stick their arms in aren’t allergic to mosquito bites. Doesn’t bother them to get bit beyond the feeling of being bit.

I mean I guess it could happen that they are just masochistic, but typically not.

Wow, that is, uhh, some name that’s an acronym for…

Similarly, granular audio options that separate dialogue from ambient from music from system sounds. Definitely don’t need my ears blown out just to hear dialogue.

I like having the background music very low, but not off, system sounds a bit above that, sound effects higher than system but lower than dialogue, which is maxed. And of course ambient sound levels really depend on the game and what kind of ambiance it has.

Same thing with granular contrast/gamma/etc. Don’t just provide a few preset options, especially if they can only be set before you start the game (also they should never only be set from the main menu, never). Let the player choose whatever they want on the fly. I love playing with everything bright so I can see wtf I’m doing, I don’t give half a shit if the devs think it should be so dark it’s not navigable. I disagree.

Before reading the post body, I was trying to think if I’d ever seen apple orange juice, because I thought it was a weird juice combo thing.. like the joke that apple marketing is fantastic because it’s in every other juice.

So genuinely thanks for the explanation lol

Did they ever identify species 8469 that the borg are afraid of (I think that’s the number, didn’t look it up)?

I guess that’s maybe one thing they could do with it, if not..

Tho daleks don’t seem like a species the borg would fear, tbh..
