It is stupid easy to get a free .edu account. It will not hamper spammers in the slightest. Even if they don’t want to make a few .edu accounts a day to do their spamming, they can just buy .edu accounts in bulk for about 10 cents per. No one is making thousands of kbin accounts to spam from, they make a handful a day, and use them till they get banned. Then they make a few more.

.edu accounts are a terrible way to try and prevent spam on kbin. There is literally an industry around generating fake .edu accounts. You can buy them in bulk. Some colleges receive 10’s of thousands of fake applications a month trying to get free .edu emails.

It's not much, but 30 votes is 30 votes!

We have rubrics. Like if we're asking for an AA degree, but a BS preferred, you'll get tossed out if you don't have an AA, you'll get 1 point for an AA, and 2 points for a BS. But you'll also get a 2 for a MA or DR.

It gets weird when it's education and or maybe experience somewhere in the field.... some people who write our job descriptions don't think things through....

When Joe Biden and Congress enacted legislation in December that blocked a threatened freight rail strike, many workers angrily faulted Biden for not ensuring that the legislation also guaranteed paid sick days. But since then, union officials says, members of the Biden administration, including the transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg, and labor secretary, Marty Walsh, who stepped down on 11 March, lobbied the railroads, telling them it was wrong not to grant paid sick days.

“We’ve made a lot of progress,” said Greg Regan, president of the Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO, the main US labor federation. “This is being done the right way. Each railroad is negotiating with each of its individual unions on this.”

Brine discharge can be pretty bad for the environment, so we do some tank exchange thing with Culligan. Every other week they install a new tank and remove the old one to be recharged. Working great so far.

BeeHaw looked promising up until a few days ago when this happened:

https://beehaw.org/comment/819474

and the response from the other admins was a lack luster too.

https://beehaw.org/comment/848740

Like how hard would it be to say that the admin's behavior was unacceptable and it will be discussed internally. It seems clear to me (and most other posters there) that it was a one sided issue.

I'm not really sure where is good. It was nice to see some non-admins speaking up about it, but seeing the other admins circling the wagons when one of them is clearly in the wrong makes me weary of doing any more than lurking. 10A wouldn't last 5 minutes there, but you have to worry about being berated if you're not as far left as the admins even if you're respectful.

The ice isn't to cool the water, the ice is to reflect most of the incoming light.

Sea ice keeps the polar regions cool and helps moderate global climate. Sea ice has a much brighter surface compared to many other Earth surfaces, particularly the surrounding ocean. The darker ocean reflects only 6 percent of the sun’s energy and absorbs the rest, while sea ice reflects 50 to 70 percent of the incoming energy.

I'll be shocked if this isn't abused to target marginalized groups and destroy their sub reddits.
