That's my point.

Regularly going to ATMs / banks is demonstrably less convenient for both consumers and businesses and safeguarding the cash presents a security risk, especially for small businesses.

But the alternative of digital payments comes at a huge cost to privacy.

Exactly, it's not only deceptive but also ignoring the fact that many visitors are likely not earning on par with people in New York and are making decisions about where to eat based on the advertised prices.

All these bars and restaurants talking about how busy they've been and have massively increased business during the world cup. They're aware of the tipping problem yet still somehow can't find the cash to cover the difference so that their staff get a normal wage.

They could share some of their revenue windfall with the wait staff. But instead they complain to news outlets and add an automatic 20% markup without prior notice to extract even more money from the visitors.

It is more secure.

It's much easier to steal cash than to force someone to unlock a device and make a payment, so yes it is more secure.

I didn't say 100% unbeatable.

~~Security~~ Privacy. They are distinct concepts.

For example, tokenised and biometrically authenticated transactions are more secure and more convenient than cash payments which are comparatively riskier, easier to forge, easier to steal etc.

However, this allows banks and payment providers to keep tabs on your transaction data, which cash does not.

Convenience and privacy are usually at opposite ends, security can come at either end depending on the medium.

Tbf it's only been ten years since the mid 2010s so a bit early to know if they'll keep going longer term

Sure but that alternative doesn't work for anyone who already doesn't own an Apple device. Also those two and a half billion devices you mentioned can't run alt browsers due to Apple policy so you're basically just picking another company to hand complete control to.

I read that the victim's family specifically said they didn't want his death to be uses to promote division and hatred - where have you seen the opposite?
