Why do the small beings simply not travel atop the winged creatures to the molten rock?
Large winged creatures are highly visible, and the alliance of protagonists has not established air dominance
Also there's a giant retinal sensor that has combusted on a tall structure near the molten rock that sees pretty much everything 24/7.
The small beings are being brought to the slender building of magic!

The characters design of these blue guys reminds me of the Australian space related stop motion series, Plasmo.
