He no longer lived there, correct? It is implied that he just happens to be there?
Yeah, Nixon had been out for a while by this time. Reagan would have been newly elected in '81, but Nixon probably wouldn't have been able to publicly get anywhere close at the time, even though they were in the same party.
Huh, interesting. I wonder why he's in the comic, then.
Because he was a power-mad heel that would have loved to keep being president indefinitely, if the threat of impeachment for illegal activities hadn't caused him to resign.

Correct, he was out in ‘74 and this is ‘81. I believe Regan was president at the time of this strip.

Hello fellow Bloom County fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.
Bloom County is an American comic strip by Berkeley Breathed which originally ran from December 8, 1980, until August 6, 1989. It examined events in politics and culture through the viewpoint of a fanciful small town in Middle America, where children often have adult personalities and vocabularies and where animals can talk.
